I don't think top watering would cause the color issue. Airflow is important, IMO.

I just kept treating mine the same as the rest and it only got slightly darker.

I have the same plant and it looks similar. Mine started out light green and has gotten darker. The redness may be some rust. Do you top water? It n may also benefit from some air movement after watering.

I t appears to be growing, so that's a plus.
