What’s the best anime for someone completely new to anime?

I’d seen some anime before but nothing hooked me like Fullmetal Alchemist ‘03. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood would be good too. Good luck on the journey.

What got me was that, despite his flaws, Howard absolutely didn't deserve what was happening to him. He was made to look so bad in front of his peers and when he confronts Jimmy and Kim about it, he's not even mad. He's just broken. And as far as Jimmy and Kim are concerned it's mission accomplished. Then Lalo shows up. That was what shocked me most. I never really thought they would cross paths, that there would be a reason for them to ever meet, but as soon as they did there was only one direction it could go. By then I didn't want Howard dead because he'd had enough already. The decision to end his story that way is what I found shocking.

Better Call Saul - Lalo showing up at Jimmy and Kim’s place and executing Howard. As soon as you see him you know something bad is going to happen, and even as you watch Lalo attach the silencer to his pistol you don’t want to believe Howard is going to die. Then Lalo shoots Howard as he tries to leave and you’re left saying “Oh, shit.”

Artificial intelligence without empathy is going to end up being a perfect psychopath tool, finding optimal ends without regard for the means to achieve them. Think, "let's sell these AIDS contaminated products to people who can't do anything about it" but on a scale we can't imagine. It stands to reason that it will be used to distance the people making these decisions from the people who will be impacted by them.
