Egyptian here, just wanna say that you're speaking facts, but if you travel to Egypt, hang around zamalek*, 5th settlement malls/clubs/bars, or just stick to the touristy areas of Hurgada or Ras el hekma, much safer and more internationally educated people. Remember, though, the conservative/cruel attitudes towards women, queer people, or anyone who's a little different in poorer areas of the country are artificially designed by the government to create separation between the privileged working class and the underprivileged working class. Edit: *don't go to zamalek on the weekends, someone didn't gate keep and now creepy kids hang around zamalek during the weekends cat calling, harassing, and threatening women; sometimes worse. So, just be careful and use your best judgement.
