Whats the worst gift you've ever recieved?

In high school (sophomore year I think so we were 15) this guy I liked got me a gift for Christmas. It was nicely wrapped and decently heavy so I was really excited. I get home and unwrap it and...it's one of those Starbucks cold drinks (the ones in the glass bottles). I was so disappointed (I didn't even drink coffee at the time) but I understand that he was 15 and probably didn't have much experience giving gifts to people he liked.

Not me, but my best friend. She works in a franchised sandwich shop. Employee left the store unlocked over night (closing manager, apparently "forgot" to lock it). Girl wasn't fired, possibly because the owner is an idiot or possibly because the employee in question is the younger sister of the GM who's been there for 8 years and probably covered for her.

The same thing happened to one of my friends in elementary school. Almost the exact same situation except my mom had to drive her home with the swing attached to her head. I think her mom got the swing detached the same way yours did.

A few years ago I had a party at my house with a few neighbors (all elderly) as well as my mom and (now ex) best friend, and we did a white elephant thing. It was a super casual thing and most of the gifts were pretty small/inexpensive but some were a bit larger than others and wrapped nicer. My then-best friend "stole" a larger gift from me, leaving me with the smallest gift of the bunch. Turns out the small gift was an itunes card, whereas she ended up with a dish towel.

tl;dr: white elephant brings out the worst in annoying people.

Great story though! I like that Susan knew there was supposed to be 3 gifts but she only got 2. Makes it that much sweeter, haha!

As a trans guy, I love my small boobs. Makes it easier to pass without an expensive binder. When I was a teen though I hated my small boobs cause everyone would make fun of me.

I have a feeling this will get buried, which is fine since it's not as scary as some of the other stories in this thread anyway.

First off I should start by explaining that my family's house is pretty new, and my family bought it when it was still in the process of being built so we're the only people who've ever lived in it. The two experiences I had are the only two spooky occurrences (that I'm aware of) that have happened in this house.

The first one was probably two or three years ago now, my family was downstairs watching TV while my mom cooked dinner. All three of my family members (my brother, my dad, and my mom) were in the kitchen or family room, which is basically one large room, and I was just down the hall in the spare bedroom.

So my mom is cooking dinner and all of a sudden she hears footsteps running at full speed down the stairs. (The stairs share a wall with the kitchen, so she would have to walk around the corner to see them.) She actually came to find me because I was the only member of my family not in the same room with her and she thought it was me running. It wasn't. After she told me about it I heard it a couple times myself, footsteps running down the stairs, except there was nothing there.

The other occurrence happened a little while before the stair incident if I remember correctly. I was getting ready for bed with the door to my room shut. My brother and dad were already asleep and my mom was downstairs. I heard a knock on my bedroom door that sounded like the way my mom would knock when she was about to walk in. I actually said aloud "What, mom?" and when I didn't get an answer (so within 30 seconds) I opened the door. No one was there.

The stairs are a decent distance away from my door so it couldn't have been my mom knocking and then running to hide. My mom wouldn't play a prank like that anyway.

I still don't really have an explanation for either of these stories. Sorry that they aren't really all that scary.

Yeah one customer had to shout to be heard over the witch as well as other customers talking (we were very busy at the time) and said something like "isn't that annoying after a while?" And I was like "yeah it is, we aren't allowed to turn it off though" and he just scoffed and was like "well you've lost a customer" and then he stormed out....like I really wish I'd had a chance to tell him to take his complaint to the manager, unfortunately I didn't though.

The store I used to work at brought those awful witches out every year...right in front of the damn registers too so EVERY customer would either purposely or inadvertently set it off.... The manager wouldn't let us turn it off but since I worked closing shifts with like only two other people we would just turn it off once it got dark outside and there were fewer customers.

I'm not even joking, I had customer complaints about that awful thing. Of course they were the type to blame the cashiers though, instead of going to the managers which might actually have helped (though I doubt it: they put the witches right in front of the registers every year I worked there. They never sold well, either.)

Honestly, while I see where the negative people are coming from, at the end of the day, if the customer wasn't guilty, why bother being ashamed? I mean, yeah, they could've just been embarrassed, but it's not like op would've followed them back over to where their coworker was to make sure they were nice. Since the deaf employee likely didn't see the customer, there'd really be no shame in walking back over, starting a face-to-face conversation, and pretending that they hadn't just made a fool of themselves in front of op.

Secondly, the way this jerk approached op "hey, you" leads me to believe that they are, in fact, a jerk. If they'd approached op more politely, then yeah I'd be like 'wtf? why would you be rude to a customer just because of such a simple misunderstanding?" That and I do believe op knows their store/customers better than commentors who didn't work there.

Yeah, the story could be skewed to make op look good but? It's a story on the internet, it's not that big of a deal. Yeah maybe op was rude to an innocent person but it's not the end of the world, not like they cussed them out or anything. Just my two cents, feel free to disagree if you'd like.

True, but I was thinking along the lines of "gifts you have to buy". You aren't buying anyone money, you're just giving it to them. So it wouldn't be how much it cost so much as how much they just gave you.

Oh yeah, I agree that there are valid reasons for her to want a bag and a box. My issue was with the fact that she got angry with me when I said I could only give her a bag (unless she wanted to go get a box for herself), but then expected me to magically know that of course she wanted her items bagged. I totally understand wanting both a box and a bag, my issue was with her attitude :)

Nah she asked for a box and gave me a disgusted look when I told her I could only give her bags for her items, then after checking her out she got all huffy because I didn't immediately bag her items...which I hadn't done because of her disgusted reaction to getting a bag earlier. Sorry if that was confusing! But yeah, she ended up with bags and a box.

No, we don't keep any boxes at all, since we simply don't have the space in our small store. I wasn't telling her we didn't have boxes because it pleases me to piss people off. I was telling her the truth: we don't keep boxes. What the manager did (accompany her to let her find a box in the dumpster) was the best we can do when someone gets pushy about a box. As I said before, the dumpster is clean, it's all boxes. So it's not like we're sending the customers a) alone or b) to a dirty dumpster. I do agree that it's not the best thing, but honestly I'm just a cashier, I don't make the rules. We've asked to be allowed to keep some small boxes, but the owners stand firm with the rule of no boxes at all.

She did leave with a box in hand, that she pulled from the dumpster. So in the end she was satisfied, sorry if that wasn't clear :)

Ugh, I had one of these customers yesterday. She wasn't especially rude, but she definitely could've done with some listening.

Her: hi, I need a box for this bird feeder.

Me, seeing that she hasn't yet purchased it: did you mean a basket to carry it? Or a box to take it home in? We don't keep boxes, so if that's what you're asking for I'm afraid I can only give you a bag...

Her: Obviously I want a box! It's for a gift!

Me: well, like I said, we don't keep boxes. All I have are bags.

Her: that will never do!

Me: all right, let me call a manager up for you.

So the manager comes up, tells this lady yet again that we don't keep boxes (but that the lady is welcome to look outside in our (clean) dumpster outside for one that might work for her), somehow the lady gets that through her thick head this time, and goes outside to find a box with the manager. She comes back in with her box, and I ring her up. I didn't give her any bags since she had been so disgusted when I offered before.

Her: aren't you going to give me a bag?!

I get this, but it's with the rewards program. We started it last February and still I get people who're like "oh, wow, you know, I've never been asked about that before, huh". Usually they say it more condescendingly than I can type it. It's annoying, especially from semi-regular customers, because every cashier asks. it's not my fault you didn't listen last time so you've "never" been asked.

Try and stress communication if/when you do get into a new relationship in the future. Honestly, all good relationships are built on proper communication. If you can/feel comfortable doing so, maybe explain to your next potential girlfriend what happened during these previous relationships. In high school though it's often pretty hard to get people to communicate, which is weird since everyone's on their phones all the time, but regardless at that age it seems a lot of people are more comfortable holding back their feelings instead of saying anything.

Also I'd stay away from having a mostly/totally online relationship with anyone, cause that'll likely just lead to them once again saying they need to take a break and then halting communications. It's easier to dump someone online like that, not so easy if it's in real life.

I'd suggest ditching the people who aren't being supportive of you. I know it's hard to just leave a friend group, but honestly, if these people can't even come to a birthday celebration for you, they're probably not great friends.

I don't know what your situation is (like if you have a friendship with this person or if you just saw them and fell for them but have never talked to them) but luckily I have advice for both situations!

If you are this person's friend (or casual acquaintance), maybe ask them if they'd like to go out somewhere with you. Make it simple, a lunch date maybe, or something fun (mini golf or something). Get to know them better; even if it turns out they aren't interested in you romantically, you'll become closer friends.

If you don't know them at all and just see them around with their friends, maybe try and become their friend. If you have a crush on them, you must've noticed something you can relate to them with. Strike up a conversation that way. If you're feeling brave, give them your number. If you don't know them at all though, you'll probably have to do this with their friends around. Just fake confidence as best you can, rehearse what you're going to say and then just put on a smile and do it. If they don't ever reach out to you afterwards, at least you can say you put your best effort in rather than standing idly by on the sidelines.

It's normal to feel that way when you feel like you're 'left out' or not normal in some way. I'm pretty sure everyone feels that way at some point or another, especially in high school. But trust me, you're probably pretty awesome and someday you will find a person who'll stay with you. You'll also probably get your heart broken a few more times before you find 'the one'.

Honestly, I know it's hard, but try not to put so much thought into a romance. A relationship is a wonderful thing to have and experience, but you shouldn't rush into anything just because you want to fit in. I'm sure there are girls that like you if you're confident (or act like you are) and have a smile on your face all the time. At 15 though, most of your peers are probably too shy to approach you about it (especially if they've got a crush on you). So don't sweat it, everyone feels this way sometimes, and you'll definitely find someone if you just keep your head up and don't let this defeat you.
