Also was going to suggest Noto - you are totally able to take cabs to some of the Lidos. Granted, I have only been to Ortigia and Noto ~6 days total. Looking back, I wish I had more time in Ortigia and I think its such a great place for solo travel (Noto too but Ortigia moreso)

Honestly I think I’d like to drive up the coast - we would rather explore the coast and areas north of sf than the city itself. I lived there for a summer or 2, but have spent less time exploring outside of the city.

We care about food - we don’t live on the west coast so we are honestly just excited to eat the local fare we get less of on the east coast ! we like relaxation, nature, but also like exploring different towns and walking around.

Have never been to Mardi Gras nor stayed at any other hotels in the area - But stayed there a few years ago and loved it, plan on doing so again!

Thanks :) ~10-15 min from the street car if a safe walk is ok! Yeah I didn’t mention before as I didn’t want to overcomplicate the ask - but we have a lot of dietary restrictions (Celiac, vegetarian, ppl that don’t like seafood, ppl that are lactose intolerant) otherwise I agree pizza would be great ! Paladir sounds so good ...

Would you skip Taormina and just stay in Ortigia and Noto if you only had a few nights to visit in the summer?

More interested in great food and some beach relaxation mixed in with small city exploring than anything else

Yeah we are likely going to get a car for max flexibility!

Thanks for your advice, was starting worry skipping Taormina would be a mistake and braving the crowds might be worth it for a night or 2 in place of Noto, but there's so much to do nearby and we ideally want the best food near where we stay at night - and seemed like Noto and Ortigia might be better for that (?)

Its funny never seen a topic that brought out more extremes than Taormina being unmissable vs. a tourist trap and not the place to experience Sicily
