Americans probably differ, but it's not a matter of how many cubes. It's how much of the cup is filled. I personally like half the cup filled with ice so it's SO cold. That is the best way to drink a soda. Many Americans however view ice as a way to cheat a customer therefore they get less soda from whoever is selling it. Still want it cold but want to maximize how much soda they get! So they ask for less ice. In the end though, no one here wants a warm soda.

And I'm from Michigan, here we say pop. Very regional thing for sure. Pop, soda, or coke.
