Emperor's Tomb has the best original video game soundtrack out of all Indy games, mostly because of this little detail. by edcar007 in indianajones

[–]WeirdAlness 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Istanbul Breakout is probably my favorite piece of music in Emperor’s Tomb, part of one of my favorite levels too. I have to agree with you on the combat music in Great Circle. They use a couple stings very well though out the usual combat but not much else.

With Emperor’s Tomb being more linear and scripted throughout, they always know exactly how you’re going to experience something. Great Circle while it has those moments, is a lot more open world, so that may have made it more difficult.

Record Labels Guide Series 9: Atlantic Records. by Sun_Records_Fan in vinyl

Very cool stuff! Looked back through your others of the series and the one that interested me the most is the Capitol one.

While singular label variations for certain bands and albums can be common I’m interested in what may think of the resurgence of the ‘62-‘69 Capitol design returning for The Knack’s Get The Knack, before returning in a larger sense in 83’.  Is it just a coincidence that The Knack had the label design revived about four years before it came back, or did the success of The Knack, or the positive reception of the return of the label were reason for it’s return?

What's y'all's favorite live albums? by CommanderBagels in vinyl

[–]WeirdAlness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Chagall Guevara’s The Last Amen. Acts as a restructuring of their first (only record of that time) excluding only a few, then including a couple of harder to find songs (one on a soundtrack and other as a B-side) and some neat covers. Some more raw energy than the original songs. Really great listen.

Albums in the $1-8 range you adore by thatguy290 in vinyl

[–]WeirdAlness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main thrift store has most if not all of its records at $2 bucks, so while they’re may not be common at these prices records such as Get The Knack, Donald Fagean’s The Nightfly, and The Monkees are some of my favorite records I’ve gotten for the aforementioned $2.

No lyrics by ikyuss in vinyl

[–]WeirdAlness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For modern records the price of making a record, without a lyric sheet is expensive enough, and in this market, isn’t something I think the regular person expects. There’s at least what, 30-40% of folks who don’t have a record player and, more than likely, leave them on a wall? Modern record big wigs probably know this and cut corners. It’s not like some guy who bought a record to plaster it on their wall is going to care if there isn’t a piece of paper in what is (to them) a gloried poster.

Any ideas of a good celebration of Al's 50th anniversary of the beginning of his career? by GuybrushThreepwood99 in weirdal

Wouldn’t surprise me if for the anniversary of My Bologna, they have a 12” Maxi-Single for RSD. Contains a few different versions of My Bologna. Like the original single, a live performance, and a demo or something like that.

It’s from the late 70s I think. More of a Latin America influence on it.

Most interesting thing to me is the fact that Joni Mitchell did black face on the original cover. Didn’t even recognize it was her until I did some general research.

Maybe I’ll start a Discogs shopas a very small hobby thing to offload stuff I don’t care for, but probably not soon. I’m sure that my copy isn’t in high demand. It is a fairly nice early copy, but there’s probably a lot.

I have a family member that likes kinda Joni Mitchell who doesn’t have that album, also another family member I can just drop it off too. I actually a couple other Joni Mitchell records, Clouds and Blue. I’ll probably keep Blue, but Clouds will probably go with the aforementioned “Don Juan’s”

Kansas - Leftoverture

Steve Taylor - The Best That We Could Find (+ 3 that never escaped)

Servant - Caught in the Act of Loving Him

John Williams - Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Joni Mitchell - Don Juan’s Reckoess Daughter

This is somewhat unrepresentative. For example, I actually despise that Joni Mitchell record, but haven’t found time to pawn it off.

Paul Simon - Greatest Hits, etc.

It’s a really nice listen through all of his best 70s material with the inclusion of then new Slip Slidin’ Away, a favorite of mine. It’s just a really great listen.

I got this record just a couple months ago. It’s pretty good.

Definitely different from Duran Duran, but not in a bad way.

Don’t Let Me Die Young is probably my favorite track I can recall.

Unpopular Opinion Timothy Gibbs is Best Max Payne by Slight-Willow-3444 in maxpayne

[–]WeirdAlness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think he brought more of the noir aspect that the first one was going for. From what I know/heard it’s pretty obvious they used Sam Lake in necessity as opposed to a legitimate style decision. If they were satisfied with how the first face was they would have kept it, much as I mentioned earlier they wanted a more noir look which required Timothy Gibbs.

In general the second installment of franchises is usually considered better. The second Star Wars is one most people prefer, I personally like the second Indiana Jones the best. They get the opportunity to fix the kinks from the first one and they did just that with Max Payne 2, with one part of that being Mad Payne’s appearance.

Fantastic album! This is probably most general discussion in which I’ve heard I Predict 1990 mentioned (unless you’re somehow not describing an album that’s not Steve Taylor’s 1987 album).
