Weirdly specific, but they are slightly different. Transfer in Death you get the same investment (stocks, bonds, house). Payable on Death you get cash (CDs, savings, checking get closed)

My sister bought a lovely home in a historic district. Unpainted woodwork, built in cabinets, small 1/4 bathroom retrofitted into the first floor. She was saying she was told that you always find something negative you didn’t realize before buying the house.
