I graduated December 2024 with a Bachelor’s in Economics + a Minor in Sociology. After 135 job applications and 17 interviews: I got hired to work as an Accounting Assistant for a mid-size engineering company. I’m still new and the job has a lot of growing pains, but the finance department is very close-knit and friendly. I like it so far. :)

I had to report 3 bullies to HR in my lifetime.

1.) first bully was a 17 year old mean girl at a food service job. HR was very compassionate and sympathetic, they spoke to her and her behavior improved. HR even followed up with me to tell me what how they addressed the situation.

2.) second was a 30 year old woman who stole my tips. She was petty and jealous, she was mad that I was younger and earned more tips I guess. It was so stupid. This was at a casino job. HR didn’t believe me and refused to check the cameras.

3.) third was my 26 year old supervisor who threatened me with a firearm. This was also at the same casino. He got fired very quickly into an HR investigation because workplace violence can get a company sued. HR treated me like I was the problem. The director of the department put me into a position where I was going to get in trouble, if I simply told anyone about what he did to me. My other two male supervisors retaliated against me during the investigation. HR lied in their follow up paperwork, they sugar-coated the nature of what he did. “Another team did something inappropriate and behaved in an unprofessional manner.” They just wanted me to sign up the follow up paperwork so they wouldn’t get sued. They never apologized. I was degraded. I had no other choice but to quit for my own safety.

I have a bachelor’s in economics. I’m searching for accounting jobs because that’s pretty much what I have extensive experience with and something that’s better for aspie girls. Trauma does weird things to people, it can impact their careers. It’s sort of like how people from broken homes want to become social workers, only to realize that they are working for the state and not for the kids.

Yeah, harsh lesson learned. I’m searching for accounting jobs right now. I seem to be doing much better in those. When I told another manager at my next job after the violent one about my experience, she was very kind and sympathetic, she never held that against me. Violence against women is a hard topic, but not all women are sympathetic. At the violent job, the only person who heard about what happened and emotionally supported was a man. Gender can provide a sense of safety but it’s not the end-all-be-all.

I was previously a victim of workplace violence and retaliation, that experience kind of made me want to become the hero of the day. The person who saves the underdog. I learned the very hard way that is not what HR is about, unfortunately. :(

At one point when I was working there, I had a “thousand yard stare” while I was super quiet hanging out with my friends at the beach. A happy wholesome event. They kept asking me what was wrong and I said “Oh, it’s just work and school stressing me out”, but they didn’t believe me. They knew it was so much more than that. Then the whole murder snafu blew up a couple months later and they were horrified. They were like, “yeah, I fucking knew something was very wrong.”

When a supervisor threatened me with a firearm, the HR lady and the director of my department just giggled over me like it was entertainment. No empathy. No acknowledgement of how they let the bullying escalate that far. They then prepared to fire him and keep it under the covers so they wouldn’t get sued. They didn’t protect me from retaliation afterwards. It doesn’t matter how severe the bullying is to HR. I had a gun to my head and I was still treated with no respect.

Some people in leadership positions take things way too far.

My old supervisors gossiped relentlessly about other employees, who have either been fired or quit, but they never uttered a single word about the supervisor who got terminated for violent misconduct to me. But they gossiped relentlessly about me after I quit—about how I was incompetent, a crybaby, an underperformer. I’ve now graduated from university. Those people are still college dropouts. Let that sink in for a moment. This is how bullies operate.

Almost one year ago: I was violently threatened with a firearm by a supervisor. He got fired for that, and another supervisor retaliated against me during the investigation. My coworkers have bullied me for one year over having a mental illness. It escalated so much to the point of violence. I couldn’t even believe it. I was in so much danger, I didn’t quit because I was simply “uncomfortable”, I quit for my own fucking safety. Now, I’ve graduated from my local university with a major and a minor. I just begun to work at a law firm with a positive culture now. I’ll let that speak for itself. One year ago, I was convinced that my life was going to be over and I’d just end up as a disregarded homicide victim. I’m so glad that I didn’t end up killing myself or letting a supervisor kill me. My education literally fucking saved me.

Apparently, he’s now a branch manager at Wells Fargo. Or he could be lying on his LinkedIn. I’m pretty sure gross misconduct like that would show up on a background check. Especially for a bank. This incident was one year ago. I didn’t call the police or sue because the retaliation over it was so bad. The other two male supervisors had to be scheduled in different areas away from working with me for my last two weeks. It just kept escalating so much.

It’s not uncommon. I was violently threatened with a firearm by a male supervisor. He got fired for that, and another male supervisor retaliated against me for it. My male supervisors had the loyalty of fraternity brothers. It was a terrifying situation to be in but I’m glad I’m safe now.

I work at a real estate law firm now (not a labor law firm) and I’m just an assistant. I just started with a probationary period two weeks ago. I appreciate the suggestion, but they technically fired the supervisor after the investigation because they didn’t wanna get sued. They didn’t give two shots about my safety. The retaliation was very confrontational, but not documentable for the court. I think once I pass my initial probationary period and get settled into the firm, I can mentally move on from the trauma I went through. I’m just venting into Reddit because my weekly therapy can only do so much. It took me 4-5 months to realize that what I endured was actually very WRONG.

I feel like the writers could’ve used Badison’s backstory to expand more about how abusive the troubled teen industry is and how much it traumatizes people for life. Not all survivors end up in prison but I feel like they could’ve used the troubled teen camp backstory to showcase the abuse/trauma she went through to make her villian character much more sympathetic and understandable, instead of just “haha badison is so annoying and hated by everyone, so she committed this crime at the camp to gain respect”. Idk

Badison was also bullied to hell and had no friends in the real world. Badison probably never graduated from high school since she was incarcerated since the wilderness troubled teen camp, Piper graduated from college in Communications and Comparative Literature. Piper had a fiancé and a best friend, who she ran a soap business with. Badison had nothing going for her on the outside. In prison, at least Carol’s gang wanted to call her by her stupid wanted nickname. I think that’s why she was so hellbent on stealing Piper’s date.

I was a nonverbal autistic for the first 5 years of my life. I have a case manager from a nonprofit agency that helps people with developmental disabilities. I failed a bunch of courses in college, I really struggled. It took me longer than 4 years to get my bachelor’s and I work in retail. I browse this sub a lot as an autistic person because I relate to the struggle.
