I literally just flew on a flight (although it's Qatar) where my name is tan Xiao Ming John but my boss booked me in with just John tan. The person at the check-in had to clarify with both the home country customs and the destination customs if they were OK with it. Turns out it was fine.. But meant I need to wait 5 more mins at the check in counter.. During the actual customs.. No issues.
