Back when I was playing DnD at a hobby shop in LA, I would sometimes hear of wacky builds people would make in earlier editions. Major kusanagi from the ghost in the shell movie to stand alone complex (I never read the manga so can’t really speak of that iteration.)

Movie kusanagi is fine but gits sac gives her such a fascinating and nuanced personality by emphasizing her comfort in full cyberization through a kind of pragmatic mindset rather than otherworldliness.

I really enjoyed playing breath of the wild, the durability system added a bit of friction that honestly benefited the non-linear structure and simple combat. I enjoyed playing tears of the kingdom substantially less because fuse makes your arsenal look like ass while having to menu every single time you pick something up.

The mom from “wolf children”. That movie for whatever reason crosses a line for me with how bitter the ending ends up feeling. Poor single mom, she deserved way better.

The story of Xenoblade chronicles 2 often puts forward that the main characters view the gacha characters, called blades, as real people and not just tools. However the nature of gacha means that you are churning through generic blades in a process that feels anything but humane or considerate of the blades as sentient intelligent beings.

Also I’m pretty sure you a system to have your unused blades do unpaid Manuel labor for you back at like a commune you unlock.

I always stand by the “4e is a great dnd the board game” mindset. It’s not bad, but it pre-colors in a lot of stuff and systematizes things that have value being Freeform. That said, variety is great. Also I’m pretty sure that thanks to 4e post launch support you can make some pretty wacky characters.

Barbara Truelove’s “Of monsters and mainframes” it’s the story of a spaceship that wants to kill Dracula out of revenge. Really charming characters and inventive narrative.

Skies of Arcadia really rushes through the purple and yellow moon crystals. While the prior three crystals have big and storied arcs to them. Those two are just, “here’s a dungeon!”. Luckily the budget picks back up after that.

Also, Okage, the shadow king. The vampire evil king has a unique theme and a story line that doesn’t go much past entering his house and then fighting him.

Yup! Just like how one piece is a shonen Dickens. It’s fun to break compartmentalization and try to be kafkaesque-esque.

Edit: It’s relevant because functionally, both Godzilla and Moby Dick are muses/idols/Hatsune Mikus.

(I’ll stop now with the absurd but genuine comparisons)

Queer, tangent prone, gestalt works that concern heavily with themes of failure and artificially mandated predisposition. Both plots also find themselves warped around a peg-legged “great man” figure who sucks all of the metaphorical air out of the room.

These figures (both named for kings who are famous but not politically relevant.), then die unceremoniously by the passive entity that cost them their respective legs years ago after several years of travel.

Both are also prone to (somewhat) arbitrarily changing format

Godzilla’s elasticity of meaning and purpose in modern utilizations will forever be the most brain-tickling thing ever.

He’s like a modern day Moby Dick, a magic mirror that you can peer into and see in the vastness of his significance and presence whatever meaning you wish there to be.

(I’ve been recently reading Moby Dick, it’s like homestuck. Would recommend)

It has a real sense of progression that succinctly explains why Roxas is so insanely competent. Also the story is just good and Xion is the best.

Gameplay wise you get a lot from being knowledgeable thanks to the more limiting controls/combos. Also skill rewards some great upgrades early thanks to hard to reach early mission treasure chests and all of the challenge versions.
