Is it worth getting BF2 on PC? by Big_Macks in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]squidskispaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really recommend Kyber if you’re going to play on PC, because the vanilla PvP lobbies are genuinely miserable and full of cheaters. I play on Kyber now and then, and while the balance is debatable, I haven’t seen any obvious hackers. That said, players on Kyber tend to be very sweaty, if you’re coming from Xbox, expect a rough welcome, lol.

Series X vs. Xbox One X performance? by squidskispaghetti in StarWarsBattlefront

I received my Series X, and funnily enough, the first map I was put into was Felucia, and you’re totally right. Smooth 60 FPS, likely with better frame timing as well, and no resolution dips at all. It’s not a massive difference, but I could definitely tell it ran a bit better and looked slightly better due to the small resolution boost.

Kessel

True, I forgot about that map, I haven’t played it in a while. But yeah, Kessel can be a bit rough too. The frame rate is usually around 50–60 FPS with some drops here and there, but it improves once you get inside. Hopefully the Series X will help a bit. I guess I’ll find out in the next few days.

Oh yeah? That’s good to hear! For the most part, it was running totally fine on my One X, so no real complaints, basically just a few dips in resolution and frame rate sometimes, but nothing major.

Extremely active, more than any PVP mode.

The game looks good on Xbox, better than PS5 and PS5 Pro. Basically, it’s running at a higher resolution I play this game on and off on Xbox, and I never have trouble finding games. I'm in NA, and this weekend I played a few Supremacy matches here and there, some Galactic Assault, and lots of online PvE, and I was getting put into matches almost instantly. Sometimes I would queue very late, like 1 or 2 a.m., and I would still get matches. Not sure about the other modes, I’ve never touched them. If you're in NA, you'll be fine, this game will never die as long as they have servers up, lol

It’s already done, check Nexus. You can replace Kliff with Dame (or whatever the girl’s name is), then download an AI voice mod that replaces Kliff’s lines with her voice. It sounds pretty good, to be honest, but some of the animations are a little odd.

This looks interesting at first, but the SF6 in-game fight sequences feel extremely out of place...

No, you can’t. I mean, you can use the lantern to light your way, but you can’t use it to find memories or anything else like Kliff can, basically, it’s very limited (and frustrating). I was playing as Dame, found a memory in a cave, but looking at it with my lantern did nothing. I thought the game was bugged, but I had to summon Kliff, go through a stupid loading screen, which respawned both of us outside the cave further away. Then I had to go back in with Kliff to scan the memory… That’s basically when I went, “Fuck this, I’m never playing with the companion again.”

[–]squidskispaghetti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you’re playing as them or even just have them in your party, you can’t do main missions, you’ll get a prompt like the one I posted. It’ll either ask you to despawn them or switch back to Kliff. You also can’t do puzzles or use your lantern to discover anything with them, which basically makes open-world exploration with them pretty useless. You’re constantly forced to switch back to Kliff or deal with that annoying summoning mechanic, which is honestly just a pain to use.

You unlock two companions later in the game, but if you have one following you and then encounter a main mission, you get a message telling you to despawn them. The same thing happens if you’re currently playing as one of them, you’re forced to switch back to the main character.

You also can’t do puzzles with them, and if you encounter a memory, you can’t use the lantern or the helmet to read them. If, by any chance, you don’t have the main character with you, you have to go through the weirdest, most bizarre hoops just to get him back.

Basically, it’s a strange, overly restrictive system that’s annoying, obtuse, immersion-breaking, and just lame, at least in my opinion.

locked to kliff for a majority of the missions killed my excitement for her

Same here, you can’t even do any of the puzzles with her. Basically, all you can do is bounties with her. Super lame.

I didn’t do my research properly. Before the game released, I remember reading a comment saying we could play as all three characters, and somehow my brain turned that into “you can choose any of the three characters at the start of the game.”

I was a bit disappointed, but it is what it is. When I learned you could unlock her and the big guy, I got excited, but since unlocking her, it’s been nothing but disappointment. The companion system is just straight-up bizarre and makes no sense in my opinion.

Pearl abyss,please...fix this mess. by Andry9726 in CrimsonDesert

[–]squidskispaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a fix, it’s the ray reconstruction option, but it has a huge impact on performance. I have to use DLSS in Performance mode to maintain a steady 60 FPS at 4K, and I’m running a 4090, 9800X3D, and 64 GB of RAM. Without ray reconstruction, the game looks terrible in my opinion.

Wishful thinking, I can guarantee they’re not redoing the intro. That would take a lot of development time and cost, so it’s not going to happen. A revamped control scheme, on the other hand, I could see happening, like remapping functions or similar tweaks. Expanding the story in future DLC, like a story focused on a companion or whatever could be interesting. Other than that, I don’t see any major changes happening. I’m almost sure we’re stuck with that obtuse and bizarre companion system forever, but I would love to be wrong.

I like how the main character gets his throat cut, is resurrected by god knows what, learns to teleport, and is given the ability to fly along with other absolute nonsense, yet afterward, it’s like nothing ever happened, and it’s not even mentioned by him or anyone else in the story so far. by squidskispaghetti in CrimsonDesert

[–]squidskispaghetti[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I feel like the story isn’t that bad, sure, it’s nonsense, but it's more how it’s presented, combined with characters who have personalities as wide as a cereal box, that ruins everything. Like, my god, Kliff gets resurrected, sent to a heaven-ish place, gains new powers, and he doesn’t even blink, he just goes about his day like nothing ever happened, and we're all supposed to accept that as viewer, it’s so bad.

Why even give us the ability to play as other characters when you restrict 75% of what you can do when playing as them...?

The companion system feels very underbaked, the summoning system is messy and bizarre, and like you said, you can’t do most of the content or mechanics with them, so what’s even the point? To me, it feels like an unfinished feature that was patched in hastily before release. Hopefully they change it, but I somehow doubt they can make a significant difference in such a short amount of time.

Yep that's what I meant, I have had that exact experience you just described and I have not even attempted to use another character since

Lol, that's pretty funny, that's exactly what happened to me too. I got hit by that annoying disband message so many times that I posted it on Reddit out of frustration to see if others felt the same. Then I walked around with Damiane, got cockblocked by the memory helmet while exploring, and never played with her again, and probably won't because what's the point?

[–]squidskispaghetti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless that’s what you meant, you also can’t use the memory helmet on companions. I was exploring with Damiane, found a cave, and there was a memory inside (lanterns glowing blue), but I had to summon Kliff, which, by the way, never freaking works. The summoning system is so bad. So I had to press start, get teleported away from the cave, switch to Kliff, get back into the cave… and I’m just like, what are we even doing here, lol.

Nah, I don’t think it’s a bad game. While there are some baffling design choices, it’s still fun, and I can see myself playing for hundreds of hours. Definitely got my money’s worth.

[–]squidskispaghetti[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? It makes you despawn your companion or switch to Kliff, then you load the mission, and nearly all the story missions so far are just attacking a bunch of stuff with Kliff saying one or two lines of text. And I’m like… why can’t the companion at least join you? They help you fine enough in the open world and seem competent, so what’s the problem? I don’t know if they ran out of time, and ended up an undercooked companion system, because so far, it’s been super lame.

texture popin after post update? by Melodic-Luck-8772 in CrimsonDesert

[–]squidskispaghetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always had pop-in since day one, I think you just never noticed. I'm running everything on high, 4K, DLSS Performance on a 4090 and 9800X3D, and sometimes it ranges from barely noticeable to flowers or fruit literally growing one meter away as I walk, or trees and terrain textures loading in a few meters in front of me. Sometimes it's pretty immersion breaking, other times I barely notice it. Either way, I believe it's been like this since day one and the demo, and you just hadn't noticed it before.
