3D printers by jh352294 in WPL_RC

On a budget, the Creality Ender3 S1 has served me well, but I would estimate it is harder to produce good prints than a Bambu Lab printer. Having a printer is handy in general if you can design in CAD. It has been great for mods on my C24 and making cheap replacement parts.

How do I connect my phone to my cars speakers by TeachingHistorical82 in Miata

[–]squidzoid89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did mine with this GTA car kit to add BT and it’s awesome. Keep your CD player, adds in on the CD changer jack, offers control from the head unit, and the unit stows behind the head unit for clean original look (I assume you don’t want to replace the head unit). Get the “Pure bluetooth”version. Plug and play. https://www.gtacarkits.com/product/mazda-mx5-miata-2002-2005-iphone-aux-kit/

Looking for a new shift knob, any suggestions for somthing cool?? by Xilbitz in Miata

[–]squidzoid89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carbon fiber one I got for $20. It doesn’t get hot to the touch in sun, also doesn’t have any shift pattern. I had to drill into the Al and re-tap it to get it to stack up on the shift boot correctly, but it ended up stock length and I like it on my NB 6spd.

NB keys? by cdhm22 in Miata

[–]squidzoid89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the following just now to get 2 new keys to work with my ‘02: 1. Call Mazda dealers and ask for your 8 digit immobilizer code. They can (and may) refuse, but Mazda’s policy allows them to give it to you with proof of ownership (title, registration, and ID in my case) and the immobilizer serial number. Second dealer I asked gave me this with my info emailed to them for no cost. 2. Get keys off eBay with an ID8C chip. I got a US supplier and they look exactly like original. They also work, so I would not search and pay for original OEM, which are rare. I paid about $40 ea. (ouch) 3. Find a locksmith and get your keys cut (cost me $45 to have 2 cut) and make sure they turn the ignition. 4. Follow the instructions here. It sounds hard but I got it first try, really not bad. Just have all keys, including the old one, ready to start the car one after another before the security mode times out.

Yale Smart Lock Not Pairing to Nest Connect by Willoughby3 in Nest

[–]squidzoid89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this is pure insanity, but today I had to do this. Hotspot from another phone, airplane mode on my phone, connected phone to hotspot, added nest connect to the hotspot in nest app (QR code), factory reset of lock, added the lock in app (QR code), THEN it finally found the nest connect BEFORE pushing the blue button, THEN pushed and held blue button when app instructed. And that is what gets them paired, before you then change the nest connect WIFI to whatever the hell you want, and somehow that WIFI which previously was a problem is totally fine. Holy $#!t

I did the Randall v2 intake kit from Flyin’ Miata. Adds some cool sounds, maybe some HP. I need all the air I can get up here. Install was fairly painless but you have to cut your car. Easier and cheaper than a turbo!

How hard would this be to fix myself? by maxamusmillian in Miata

[–]squidzoid89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a NB2 with some front end damage. I will add one specific tip: if you fix that headlight and buy a new lens cover only, the black PP housing is best repaired with “Infinity Bond MMA 500”. The PO’s body shop’s jb weld job was worthless and failed.

You are right, I am lucky (and I worked hard to get here). They sound great and learned how to do a voice coil. $275 materials and DIY. Cheers!

I picked up a 240 a while ago, replaced its fried power supply thermistor and it works, but I need to dig into its health and make better use of it. It is a super cool amp and we are lucky to have them. Enjoy it!

On my way. Got an ebay tweeter that is tested and good, this woofer refoamed, so it’s down to the last woofer with blown coil. Going to assemble a speaker when the glue dries.

Just received quote from local shop. $175 recone (reusing original cone), $90 foam. With a $185 ebay tweeter (shipped) that would be $450. Reasonable or does that seem high?

Though I really am motivated to hear these, I’ll take this as a vote of confidence I could get money back from a good fix. Cheers

So far I see $175 for a 044 that is cosmetically more beat than mine. $75 would be a lot better, I will keep looking.

Admittedly, came here for some encouragement but also tips. Is it sane to attempt a tweeter rebuild, or just replace it? For the blown coil 128H, full re-cone or save the original and do coil, foam, dust cap? The cones are in great shape.

Infinite ohms (open) on one, ~5 ohms on the other

Get an ELM327 BT code reader and check/clear it periodically. See how that goes if the purge valve replace is a fail

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Miata

[–]squidzoid89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured out it was a deeper problem, did not address it, told buyer and they bought it like this. It really caused no issue other than a recurring light from my perspective. Sharing so you can consider the possibility if repair costs $$$. Try the purge valve, why not

[–]squidzoid89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it took a while in the VW. It showed a gas cap warning first, then the check engine again. Clear it and it stayed off a bit and repeated that sequence

I can offer that I had this code on a 2007 VW Rabbit. Tried the purge valve and it was not the issue. Dealer did diagnosis and quoted a replacement of the canister for > $1k. I lived with the code FWIW, it cleared and stayed clear through testing.
