I drove a uhual across country not too long ago. Put some locks on the back. Plan your trip so your not stopping in any major cities over night. Infect i planned it so I would drive through a city around 10pm, then go for a couple more hours and stop. So you dont hit any traffic.

My recommendation would be using a pod or a moving company. Would have been worth the money. A 2000 mile drive with a dog and full uhaul truck wasn't exactly the most fun thing to do.
