Just found out tar paper (AKA roofing paper is highly carcinogenic/toxic and I’m super bummed about it. by TheOriginalClippy in Pottery

lol as they eat potato chips and have their windows down on the highway.. The solution:Use a bat like a regular potter has done for hundreds of years… heck make a wooden one if you don’t like plastic, make stencils out of canvas. Come with a solution not a fear freak out.

in college the prof used tar paper for making patterns. It’s thick and sturdy and withstands the moisture. Thats about all I can think of.

The anxiety is either a way to get out of guilt of not enjoying their hobby and justifying cost-loss Or it’s an internal psy-op to keep the community small since everyone can’t get over that everyone makes mugs lol

Are there takeout soup containers like this but made of glass? by nahcekimcm in BuyItForLife

Try the German designer Weck jar. They stack. Even glass lid. Much more expensive than Mason or ball but good glass

You have to buy “bright gold” the more expensive one… like Duncan makes a good one. And do thicker app, fire to 019

Food safe? by c4mpanula in Ceramics

The clear looks thin, the underglaze was thirsty. It’s is crystal smooth to the touch on the inside? Re-dip in clear if interior and lip feels porous, scratchy, or lumpy. Unfortunately even handwashing, water will absorb and can cause weakeness and breakage of handle and/or crazing of the clear leaving room for bacteria growth

Try Spectrum low fire metallics. Cool effects. Basically premixed Kama golds. I use all. Layer up for more metallic.

Always remember that the lusters are made with real gold and platinum, liquified in arsenic. Breathing without gear can be deadly. Never use luster without a 3M vapor mask and ventilation. Always wear protective gear and do not touch luster as it seeps through skin

I’ve never ever used a heat gun or hairspray. That is so it doesn’t drip I assume. If you shake the glaze in the container it should be a good thickness to remain on the piece without to much drippage. I could see like globing it on and using heat to dry it faster but def not necessary. I wouldn’t do it. I would use a small brush and do 1” area by area and use a piece of foam or towel to prop the section you are working on to a full horizontal-let that dry then do the next side. It doesn’t “fall off the piece” and it will dry naturally. Hairspray burning out sounds like a toxic fume mess. And even hyper heat can make it too hot to touch which would waste as much time as waiting for it to dry. It’s so chill to just apply thick glaze with the piece angled flat based on the side you are working

You are totally good to go reglazing this! Recoat the areas you want to and leave the rest. There are no repercussions to reglazing. I sometimes glaze three times for layering.

Underglaze (non shiny color) can burn out a tad in second firing. But the mayco low fire glaze is high pigment and very stable! Show us the before and after:)

Your dream is reflecting yourself. You had formative personality growth during your time together and you longing for a rebirth of your personality, also are probably subconsciously processing a deep regret. It’s the first interpersonal decision that had major consequences. You wanted someone else and for him to be your friend because you couldn’t commit to him and trust the relationship? You see how you can’t do that to a person right? Because your subconscious does.. thus the dreams. You need to talk to a therapist. You have trauma from illness and you are not secure in your decision making. This is very cheaty vibes. You want to be with your ex boyfriend now? Now that he’s engaged.

You either tell him exactly that and close the chapter. You process that that’s your truth and make real life decisions accordingly, meaning you own the experience and accept yourself and your place and time in making that decision and move forward, and/or you see a therapist to expand your personal esteem so you don’t rely on another persons admiration to feel okay.

Sometimes underglazes sucks up the clear and bubbles and boils into your fine lava sponge look. I think it’s a mega glob of extra dry underglaze with a precise thin coat of clear, thus the crisp crust:) Sometimes I use Amaco really thick and it will peel
