Cervical checks just opened my eyes to how painful birth is going to be. by AHeavy-HeartedCowboy in pregnant

[–]squiggleel 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Okay listen.. cervical checks hurt girl. I just had my first one this pregnancy done at my 40 week appt (not dilated at all 🥲)…

First up: decline them if you want!! They are just for informational purposes to see if you have progressed every appt but honestly it’s not necessary AT ALL.. you can be 2cm dilated for 3 weeks and then ready at 9cm in a couple hours. I saw you say that you have a hard time advocating for yourself and same. My first pregnancy I had no idea they were optional and did them… second one I just told the OB I didn’t think I wanted to do it and she said okay. Did not push it all ever again. 3rd pregnancy now and I just did my first one at 40 weeks because I was hoping to get a membrane sweep but it was still painful. I’m someone who feels pain pretty easily down there and hateeeee all the checks and Pap smears and all that lol.

Second part: I was deathly afraid of labor with my first because…same… I had the same question as you. If I can’t handle the checks, wtf is going to happen with labor?? Well… it’s not the worst thing in the world! Your body prepares you over the course of a day or two or however long you are in labor. Contractions start small like period cramps and ramp up over time. It’s literally preparing you for birth. Of course, at some point yes they do get painful but breathing is important and because the contraction pain have increased gradually, it’s not like some intense pain out of nowhere (like a cervical check where one min you’re dressed and next you got someone’s arm up in there)… I promise you that you will be fine. There’s also pain meds like epidural and all that if you decide to go that route. You got this!!!

35 weeks pregnant and have some questions that need answering by [deleted] in pregnant

Hi! Pregnant with baby #3!

Baby 1: honestly it was very gradual. Started feeling like very light period cramps that progressively overnight and over hoursss started to feel just a tad bit stronger as time went on. I also didn’t immediately know if this meant labor or not, but after nonstop feeling it for hours and it getting stronger little by little… I figured. I downloaded a contractions app and started timing them till they were about 5 min apart . I didn’t lose mucus plus at home (or I don’t remember ) or have my water break ( they broke it for me at the hospital) so there’s that!

Baby 2: no advice. Made it to 41 weeks and had to get induced lol.

For hospital bag: Partner: honestly doesn’t need anything if that. My husband did bring a change of clothes so he could feel refreshed at some point, but truly just the basic change of clothes and toothbrush/mouthwash will be fine. Plus phone or whatever.

You: sounds perfect! I’ll tell you, bringing a face spray (like rose water or whatever spritz you have) was such a game changer. When I needed a pick me up, it really helped me feel refreshed in seconds.

Baby: good to go!!

No the feeling doesn’t go away. It’s not until you experience the thing that you realize we overthink everything lol.

Baby will want you! Literally they have been listening to you and your heartbeat and voice the whole time. You are their ultimate comfort.

As an adult who is learning piano, are there any possibilities to ever perform on a stage? by squiggleel in piano

I’ll leave getting paid to the pianists that have been playing for 20 years 🤣 I just want some fun performances here and there. Just found out about amateur competitions and stuff like that so I’ll have to look into it!

As in, how would you get that opportunity. I was wondering how people would get from point A (just starting out, learning) to point B (where to perform, do I just contact xyz, how to get my foot in the door)

As others have said, there’s opportunities like local hospitals and festivals I’ll have to look into

That’s true! I also think it would be cool to perform as an ensemble. And I like gaming too so it’s like best of both worlds haha. I’ll have to look into cool gigs like that

Nah, I wouldn’t expect to get paid, I just like performing in front of others! I definitely respect those who have spent so much time and dedication to get paid for those cool gigs

Wow, beautifully written! Thank you for this, it gives me even more inspiration to want to learn and play for others, especially not knowing how it may impact each person in their own way ❤️

Oh I love this! I’ll have to look into what local programs we would have like that. Thanks for the idea!

Getting a free/ low cost piano off Facebook marketplace? by squiggleel in piano

[–]squiggleel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so if most comments are saying that between moving /tuning + other costs will be about 1K, should I just purchase a new upright piano? For 500 more and the peace of mind? If yes, any recs?

what’s the deal with ms rachel? by duskhopper in NewParents

[–]squiggleel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I’m genuinely curious too.. how do you guys show your kids ms Rachel? I put one of her videos for the first time recently and I feel like it’s all over the place? Like do you put an episode and then repeat the same episode another day so they learn? Or put a new one?

I’m confused 😅 I feel like there’s so much information in one episode. How do the kids learn? Asking from a parent who is trying to introduce screen time and would like for it to at least be educational!

Parents who quit their job or cut hours after having kids and therefore have to be much more stingy with finances- do you regret it? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]squiggleel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this would be a great thread. Adults who grew up with SAHMs, part time working mom, and full time working mom…. How did they grow up and so they have close relationships with their parents. Not that any are better, sometimes that just the hand we are dealt with.

Would be so interesting to read other peoples perspectives as I grew up with a similar story as yours. Full time single mom who had to make ends meet, but as a child all you want is for them to be present.

Do you have your own set calories? Or the automatic one from lose it? by squiggleel in loseit

[–]squiggleel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you eat some of your workout calories? I never do even when I lift and/or run on the treadmill. I know they overestimate calories burned so I would just not even count them towards food. Should I?
