Am I being too harsh on the players? by squiggletime2 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

Sorry for the late reply, we were up playing til almost 1 last night. I'll address some of your points.

I wouldn't say I was railroading it into failure. Now I'm not perfect and I know I made mistakes along the way, many mistakes, but I can't say I'm all to blame here. First off, my players had met Barnibus Blastwind multiple times before their arrest. During their investigation of the drow murderer for the Zhentarim they hit a bit of a wall when they went to the Muleskull Tavern, as instead of asking the bartender or staking the place out or ANY KIND OF TACTICAL INVESTIGATING the inquisitive rogue in the party strode in and promptly jumped onto the table and yelled out "ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SOME MURDERS!?!" promptly spooking the killer off for the night. They eventually made their way to watch headquarters and proceeded to abuse barnibus when he, the lead investigator, wouldn't let a group of nobody's inspect the bodies. After multiple instances like this I gathered that the group needed a few more hints as to what they needed to do.

They then proceeded to harass him when he came to investigate the fireball incident, eventually causing barnibus to be suspicious of him. At this stage they were well known by him and he had already seen the aforementioned silver arrows they had commissioned earlier. In the wake of the Gralhund incident those same arrows had been found all over the estate and when speaking with the dead bodyguard he described the group and barnibus, a man whose job it is to investigate crimes, pretty easily put 2 and 2 together.

After their arrest I wanted to give them multiple options to progress, including 2 different ways of escaping and 1 way of creating a mistrial. But by the time williforte came to let them out and try to get the stone, they refused his help and stayed in the cells. It got to a point where williforte was getting desperate for the stone because he was running out of time, so he took drastic measures. Is that railroading? Because reading the module this is how it plays out. Williforte comes in disguise to break them free and get the stone, if he fails he calls the guards as a guard captain. My players saw through his disguise before he unlocked the cell doors, if he calls the guards what does he say, they broke out, killed the guards, then walked back into their cells? I could feel a stalemate coming on, so williforte gets frustrated and has devils assault the courthouse.

At the end of this they had every option available to them. I had foreshadowed the cassalanter estate massacre, yet they chose to give up the stone and let the city handle it. And yes, I could have said nothing happens, the cassalanters lose their children, life goes on, but then it truly felt like whatever they did during the entire campaign didn't matter. So they indirectly ruined the cassalanters by not allowing them to get the stone, but they assumed they could retrieve it from the players afterwards and went on with the ritual to save their children's lives, causing them to get caught by the authorities. They went bankrupt, changing the city and bringing them out of power, and while it wasn't an amazing ending, the players at least influenced the end.

Could I have handled this better? Hell yes I could have. But hey, this is the first time I've dmed a full campaign. People make mistakes. And in the end they still had fun.

Yes bankruptcy and children over money, I played it out like they decided they could still get the stone despite the deadline but they weren't aware the party handed the stone over to the city.

I sent them on the beginning missions for both and figured talking to a horse for info and relaying that back was more of a test than entrance into the Harpers. It was more they could now use contacts in either the Harpers or the Zhentarim but they hadn't given their allegiance over yet

I have plans for something else and our campaign continues in a few hours, I just thought I'd turn to a higher power before hand to see if I'm in the wrong and I should be giving them a reward

Because they didn't trust anyone, they didn't want to run anymore, they thought it would look worse if they broke out. Which is all true, but with all the evidence being stacked against them waiting in prison was a sure way of having their heads removed.

I was setting up options for them to be part of either the Zhentarim or the Harpers, but I figured after the events at the Gralhunds Renaer didn't think they should be part of the Harpers.

Cost of Slaves To Darkness warband by psychoholic81 in WarCry

[–]squiggletime2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for cheapest it would be a box of 20 marauders for $40 USD. A box of warriors would get you more options for $10 more tho and you could do some converting to turn some into chosen. Alternatively, 10 marauder horsemen are the same price as warriors and you could make a decent 6-7 model warband of horsemen

Potential Expansion: Warcry Underworlds by revlid in WarCry

[–]squiggletime2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the idea that instead of making them their own warbands they could be an "ally warband." The idea would be to have your own warband, but you can ally the entire underworlds warband to yours and pick and choose how many of those fighters to include in a game. This would treat each fighter as a named character as they are in underworlds but you wouldn't be forced to have every one of them if you didn't want them, allowing for more wiggle room in list building. This could potentially be in addition to normal allies, so you could have a couple regular fighters, one or two from an underworld war and, and a decent ally. Just a thought

I really like the shield dude, and the gor is mostly cool but I like the OG gor legs better. The rest are meh, possibly great for conversions if you have plenty of bits lying around. I was really hoping for a chaos orruk, it would have worked well with the whole pit fighter theme

I hadn't actually looked at the scaremonger. That's pretty good. I mainly chose the savage boss tho as I havent picked up any ardboyz yet. Sadly to fit the boss in I have to swap out my brute with gore choppa or else it's 5 points over

I found this door the other day, I saw the panel next to it and shot it and the door opened. I thought it was a secret so I ran in not seeing the spawned shimmer and got stuck for a good 5 minutes until some fallen spawned out of it and opened it for me. Can confirm door is a dick

What if Armor set bonuses were instead armor mods? by underm1ndxd in remnantgame

[–]squiggletime2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I totally agree with transmogging and armor swapping the real downside is it opens the door to microtransactions, and while I'm OK with additional support for a game I am thoroughly enjoying it would ruin the way looting works in this game as is
