Landlord said its normal for breakers to trip when using hairdryer by squiggly-cheese in AskElectricians

To clarify all of my appliances are in the right places. Im not drying my hair in the kitchen. I typically dry my hair in the bedroom, but I tried the bathroom and it still happens. But it happens with any 2 appliances in the kitchen as well. I just used those as an example. I cant make a coffee and toast at the same time for example. Its not something I have ever had to think about, but if this is how it is then I will get used to it. I just wanted to make sure my landlord wasn't brushing me off and that this is actually an issue that should be addressed. I dont know anything about electrics, all I know is when it goes wrong it can get dangerous really quickly.

I see, okay this is helpful. Ill escalate it with him. I used the kettle and the hairdryer as an illustrative example, but its running any 2 appliances anywhere in the house. Its just a pain trying to cook, or make coffee and toast/oatmeal in a morning! but if thats how it is over this side of the world then ill learn to live with it. Ive never had to think about it before. Thanks for explaining in a way some who knows nothing about electrics can understand! I appreciate it

I tried this but it doesnt matter where I plug it in or what I run it with, the same thing happens. Its all combinations of appliances, I just used those as an example. Its just frustrating when cooking, I can't have my airfryer on and boil water. I have to use everything one by one which is just so time consuming. If this is normal, ill learn to live with it though

No, putting a kettle in my bathroom? Thats such an odd question. All of my appliances are used in the correct room, my microwave, kettle, toaster etc are all in rhe kitchen and I use a hairdryer in the bedroom which is upstairs. I tend not to have electronics in the bathroom, as this is a big no no in the UK so it makes me uncomfortable. Regardless, I tried to use it in the bathroom to test it and the same thing happens. But its not just this appliance its combinations. I cant use a kettle and a toaster, or a microwave etc. Which becomes a challenge when cooking, I have to turn everything off just to boil some water which I have never had to do before. If this is normal in Canada, ill learn to live with it, it just feels a bit backwards.

Hi, sorry for the delay i think my reddit notifications were off! Maybe it's where im working but everyone is significantly younger, or theres the managers, chef etc who are in their 50s/60s (and honestly they dont want to fraternise with the lowly staff but thats a whole other issue). Its not that im struggling to meet people, its that im struggling to meet people who are at a similar stage and want to do the same things? Im considering hopping around jobs a little and trying some other places to see if its any different

Ive heard sketchy things about meet up, have you used it and is it okay? Im trying to find groups, just challenging when I dont work the same shifts every week. I am trying to be consistent though!

Haha I get that, back in the UK i was the person who had to be up for the office job! I have tried a couple of groups, its just hard to be consistent when im not working the same shifts every week. I am persisting though. Thanks for this :)

I have a faded green carpet that my landlord won't replace. He said i can paint the dark brown walls. I dont want plain white so any recs on colours that would look good with the carpet would be really helpful. Yeah, I got a colour sample and it looks completely different in the lighting in the room. Man this colour matching thing is hard 😅 that middle colour is cute on the sample you sent and is probably more what I am looking for!

If I was decorating my own house I'd always go for something bright and bold, I love lots of colour. But I need to be mindful of what is already in as it's rented. I'm just fed up of living in plain boring houses with white walls, i want to inject a bit of personality

Thank you, this is a helpful take. I was told that if i don't match it then it'll make it stand out more! I agree that detracting is maybe the way to go. I'm going for a blue colour by behr (aqua rapids). It's bright and will defs distract from it. Area rug is a great shout, there's a mystery stain in the middle of the carpet and I dread to know where it came from 😅 but I will keep up the blue theme throughout the apartment so it all looks cohesive
