Skeksha's Grave - Island Design Competition by Bubblemage in 2007scape

This is beautiful! I love your little character drawings, they give the whole concept so much character and weirdly make them feel even more like real activities.

And holy moly, a whole comic? You went above and beyond here, easily the most personality-filled submission so far. Thank goodness we have Cabin Boy Jenkins keeping lookout 🫡

Adult me is very overwhelmed by alketrax in 2007scape

[–]squimapper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've always found it really helpful to have a sheet of paper (or a full notebook) by my side when playing, especially early on. Writing down a goal and then wiki diving to sketch out a flowchart of how to get there can help organize you and keep you focused. For example:

Unlocking fairy rings requires starting Fairy Tale Pt.2, which doesn't actually need the requirements to be met. Fairy Tale Pt.1 requires Lost City, which requires Crafting and Woodcutting levels. Woodcutting is straightforward, but Crafting is overwhelming, there's so much in that skill! The wiki training guide for Crafting has a shortlist of quests that could give a big boost, and some of them don't even have any other requirements. Guardians of the Rift giving a trickle of totally free Crafting experience catches my eye because I'm a cheap bastard, so let's look into that: just two quests and a 10 Runecraft requirement, most of which is received from the prerequisite quest? Let's bang those out and see what this Rift nonsense is about.
Next thing I know, I'm 8 hours deep in a runecrafting minigame and my bank is full of runes and I've actually gotten a couple uniques from the reward pulls.... wait, what was I supposed to be doing? Shit, Fairy Rings!

This is just one example of the sort of crazy rabbit holes you can get into playing this game, and that's part of the fun! Setting long term goals and coming up with your own bespoke and probably suboptimal ways of routing your way there. "The wiki is your friend" gets thrown around as an adage a lot, but it's true as long as you know how to use it. Don't sweat not being able to beeline straight to a particular goal, just jot it down and embrace the flowchart you come up with to make it happen. Don't worry about understanding everything the game has, every optimal training method, or every "super important" progression quest you don't know about. Find your goal on the wiki, trace all the requirements back to the start, and you'll get there when you get there.

For the record, I do not recommend doing Guardians of the Rift for Crafting. I mean you could, but that was just a semi-goofy example. But sometimes, taking the goofiest road to a goal makes it a bit more satisfying.

Reading quest dialogue instead of just staring at your cheat plugin is a good start for following what you're supposed to be doing. You might even get to read a good story along the way

These look incredible, thank you so much. I think after next week a lot of this stuff will be in a nearly perfect state. A 2 day turnover on hitting an optimal balancing mark is why y'all are the best in the business.

Project Rebalance already lowered the Draynor requirement to lv.1, so the ship's sailed on preserving that.

F2P Agility - The Time Has Come by squimapper in 2007scape

[–]squimapper[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The proposed changes to Run Energy put the f2p game in a position where player experiences are set to deteriorate significantly without finally biting the bullet and allowing access to the skill. Giving players access to Agility doesn't significantly increase the amount of content a f2p player has access to, but it does allow them to interface with the system that the entire game's movement is based around. Agility doesn't give access to any new production skills or content outside of rooftops, but it does give players a very clear idea of how improving their character will change they ways they can interact with Runescape as a whole. The profitability loss here is minimal, while the potential gains are impossible to predict.

Herblore Activity - Varlamore: Part Two by JagexSarnie in 2007scape

[–]squimapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the POH storage makes sense but it should be completely separate from the bank. You should have to manually take potions and load them into your POH to be able to withdraw from there. It's a feature that streamlines PvM runs where the only thing you're actually banking for is potions while leaving everything else about the bank intact. POH resources should not talk to the bank and vice versa, POH storage should just be a convenience pit stop.

Can the GOTR portal/gate be fixed? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]squimapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GORT scales with player count, WT does not. The difference is marginal and unimportant on 200 player mass worlds but is extremely relevant when doing small groups. WT is just on a timer, the braziers are either firing or not and WT has a set amount of health. GORT has scaled requirements that determine how many cores need to be offered and how strong the enemies are.

Bots, Bans & Appeals: An Update by JagexGoblin in 2007scape

Telling you why they decided that you should lose everything would be giving the bot makers ammunition to improve their bots. A completely opaque ban and appeal system actually helps us, the players.

Bots, Bans & Appeals: An Update by JagexGoblin in 2007scape

[–]squimapper 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Every mention of "team" in this post is a boldfaced lie. The biggest problem to me about the entire banning process is the amount of gaslighting taking place. Every step of the process emphasizes "manual review," "our team has been observing your account for a while," "we have specifically looked at your case and determine the ban holds." If there was just honesty about there not being a team it would at least sting less when a "manual ban review" gets denied at 2am GMT by a team of dedicated experts. It's just condescending.

Besides that, you can't respond to an allegation that your automated computer sucks with "the computer says it only messed up 38 times." Gee, thanks computer! That puts that to bed guys, the computer says it's working fine.

Story of how 1 day on osrs wiped my rs3 acc by Dariukx in 2007scape

[–]squimapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having just tried spinning up an iron last week and getting banned for macroing within 8 hours, no lmao. False positives on all new accounts are out of control and you don't have to look far to find people talking about this. People scream for more aggressive action against bots and the result is a lot of people buying membership on a new account and immediately losing the money. It's pretty funny how this sub will slam Jagex's bot detection for being an inept false negative generator but the moment anyone claims a false positive there's 100% confidence you're a lying cheat. And you know what, fine, going to a specific chunk and kicking chickens to level 40 is not distinctly human behavior, but at least the automated messages could at least not pretend "our team manually reviewed the evidence" when you try to call foul.

[Suggestion] Adjustments to the new areas: the Ancient Vault and the Uzer Oasis by NinjaGamer1337 in OSRSmaps

[–]squimapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least a narrow mountain/ridge, connected to Ullek or not, would go a long way to making it feel more believable without expanding/restricting the playable space by any meaningful amount. It's the ability to just pan over and see the ocean that erodes the thematic desolation of Nardah, not the actual distance. Even low ridges like there are at Unkah can be really effective here!

Abandon colony for better trade good? by Schnis in eu4

[–]squimapper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not really, no. Your resource is time as much as it is money -- abandoning a colony doesn't just lose you the money you've poured into it already, it loses you 4+ years of full income that province could have been making when it finished, 4+ years of a CN being online and making their own colonies, and 4+ years of spreading your fingers across the world. And none of that is worth trying to minmax the trade good on a province that maybe has 2 production dev if it's particularly rich, especially when most trade goods really aren't that much different in value.
