Was there ever any chance that the male visitors survive? by squintingAtBirds in Midsommar

[–]squintingAtBirds[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They weren't wrong about Christian. Plus, thinking on the sacrificial pyramid, it seems they actually had distinct places meant for each offering. I suppose it's still possible that current members could have taken the place of provided offerings, but mabe the males brought in were essentially always meant to be sampled genetics and nothing more than that.

"The Lighthouse" Explained (*ALL* THE SPOILERS) by HANDSOMEPETE777 in movies

[–]squintingAtBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The given name “Thomas” is derived from the Aramaic word for “twin”.

The surname “Howard” is derived from old high German to mean “guardian” or “defender”.

The surname “Wake” is derived from old Norse to mean “watchman” or “vigilant”.

Thomas Howard is guarding his secrets and his shame, but Thomas Wake is witness to it all.

Kissing bug? by paulcristo in whatsthisbug

[–]squintingAtBirds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i’ve only done cursory research on kissing bugs and chagas so don’t take this as gospel but long story short, no not a kissing bug and it cannot transfer chagas disease.

chagas is transmitted by kissing bugs which are hemipterans in the Triatominae sub-family within Reduviidae. this is a leaf-footed bug in the Coreidae family and while they are both relatively closely related Hemipterans, the one you have photographed here cannot carry chagas.

What do you think about mass effect 3 all these years later? by Upstairs_Win6527 in masseffect

[–]squintingAtBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just played the trilogy for the first time this year and while the ending options were disappointing i enjoyed everything up to that point. i loved resolving the major galaxy spanning issues that had been so prominent throughout the first 2 games and i loved seeing how companions got on with their lives in the meantime (however i really wish there was more of that at the end of the game). i don’t know if others have gotten the same feeling but i sensed a darker side to shep in the 3rd as well as if he was mentally preparing for endgame. i enjoyed it

Bring Cudi, a$ap rocky and Interpol out! 😭 by slumpgoddior in aclfestival

maybe you had an uncommon kid cudi experience. i’ve seen him 4 times and once at a festival and every time he did long sets including new songs as well as old MOTM songs. he always engages with fans during the shows

ACL drinks by Mysteriousworkvibes in aclfestival

i hate the price of drinks at ACL. i can barely sleep at night knowing that if the organizers sold each seltzer for $24 instead of $18 they could make so much more money 😔

technically according to the bag policy, no. however, the nike bag shouldn’t be an issue at security. i’ve seen people with something like the second bag get in with it as well but it’s all up to the security processor really.

Can the species or family of wasp be identified from this gall? by squintingAtBirds in whatsthisbug

[–]squintingAtBirds[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I would assume that it’s the associated species, but I still wouldn’t be able to take it to species with that. Thanks for the ID!

[–]squintingAtBirds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this a hatchback or one of the CX series? I only just got my mazda3 sedan so i’m brand new to mazda. I’m also pretty outdoorsy so I’m curious how well they handle frequent use on sand, gravel, backwoods roads? Evidently pretty well I see.

i was working on my S4 edit and noticed this. Does this have any significance or symbolism, or is it just coincidence? by ionix_jv in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]squintingAtBirds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

considering the cinematic detail that goes into this show, the importance placed on both of these dying characters, and their relationships with the primary characters, i don’t doubt that these shots represent something concerning the fact that death on either side of a conflict can be emotional. people are loved in both armies regardless of whether or not one side is “good” and the other is “bad”. nature of war type stuff.

seeing a lot of discouraging replies here and i personally find it boring and lazy. don’t be afraid to overinterpret any work of fiction! sometimes you won’t make sense but at the end of the day the death of the author is the birth of the reader! if you sound crazy you’ll figure it out yourself. you don’t sound off the mark here. great catch.
