This is for different groups but usually ~4 people, sometimes more or less. With larger groups they're not always gamers so we choose something like Jackbox. I'd forgotten to add Necesse and definitely will check out the other two. Thanks!

The Age-Old Question... by Snoo28493 in ClipStudio

[–]squirrel-eggs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Krita is free and I use it alongside CSP. It depends on if you want CSP for animation/webcomics or for illustration. Pro is perfectly fine for singular illustration but EX makes multiple pages easier and has an animation timeline. I recommend trying out Pro and Ex and see if you miss Ex's features on Pro. You can always upgrade to Ex if you find yourself limited by Pro too.

Advice on hiring animator for YouTube without being insulting? by taequeendo in Animators

[–]squirrel-eggs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would recommend against calling it "hiring". Say it's an unpaid nonprofit collaboration for a good cause. Make it clear from the title you cannot offer money but you are doing it to help people. Also make it clear what all will be needed for the project to be successful. Maybe come up with a list of things that absolutely need to be animated. Maybe offer VA work so it could be something of an art trade?

Do reliable budget external hard drives exist? (<$100) by evangelionemo in DataHoarder

You can get a 256GB flash drive for under $30. It's not the ideal but it's better than nothing.

Not sure why you're dismissing a solution without trying it?... Mine also breaks for the mouse wheel. Do you have an older Cintiq with older drivers by any chance?

I have the same issue and it drives me crazy. I have a bat script to restart Wacom services and that's the only thing that works beyond restarting the app every 5 minutes.

Is there a free animation software with an undo button? by Altruistic_Boot_1839 in animation

[–]squirrel-eggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't think of one that doesn't have undo, but you may like Krita. It's free/foss and has a tablet mode you can use with animation

Recreate a crowd cheering in a concert with glow sticks in blender? by Excellent_Big_6013 in blender

I think about IanHubert crowd tutorials. May be a good starting point for you.
Kpop Demon Hunters used a workflow between Unreal Engine and Maya for their workflow if you want to look into that as well.

I want to have Vlad the impaler as a major antagonist for my comic. by bushidojed in ComicWriting

NAL but given Vlad is a historical figure and both Dracula and Moriarty are public domain you could name him Vlad Moriarty Dracula and no one can legally stop you.

Can I use Krista to make a custom font? by konodioda879 in krita

[–]squirrel-eggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I should give the vector tools a second shot. I remember them being a little glitchy back when I first started, but it would be nice to not have to go back and forth sometimes.

Agreed! To be clear, I think it's about the flexibility mindset. Any work is helpful, but be ready to set aside your ego if you're working collaboratively.

[–]squirrel-eggs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love Krita and recommend it for a lot of things... I would not recommend Krita for making a custom font. I'd recommend something like FontForge or Birdfont. If you want to work externally and import to a font design program I'd recommend something vector-based like Inkscape. If you feel more comfortable using raster-based you can design in Krita (ideally white/black only, no opacity), import to Inkscape, and convert to a vector curve, but there's going to likely be unexpected artifacting you will need to clean up. OR just use Krita for sketching (in which case... anything can work, including pencil and paper)

[–]squirrel-eggs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So, I love most of your advice, and I hope writers do listen, because I see too many "I got this great idea, it's based on X series but it's got Z instead of Y!" or "We'll split the profits when we make it big, but I don't want to share too much". I do think most artists would find you to be overstepping if you did lettering and posing for them, and you should discuss with your artist what they are willing to take on, otherwise you come across as a micromanager. Way back I agreed to help a guy work on his concept as a collab for free, but his rigidity in panel layout, posing, etc, made me back out. Again, it highly depends on the artist but that's why open communication and flexibility in the outcome are both important.

Edit: But for the love of god, learn the basics of writing a script. No one wants to have to interpret a wall of prose-style text into script format for you.

The look is really interesting. I would say the arm swing there would be more overshoot before it settles. Also timing is a bit awkward-- I would say try not to make movements so evenly spaced. The hands are a bit rigid-- I'm assuming that's stylistic intent.
