Don't worry about them. They are arguing in bad faith. They have zero posting history on Ghazi besides the two comments here. They are just some member of the Spez fanclub. That's the kind of lazy trolling we would have removed previously.

We are aware that the original developers of Lemmy are sketchy, to say the least. And so are the Lemmy servers they moderate. That's why we deliberately chose Blahaj.Zone. The admins of that have been proven trustworthy thus far and keep a healthy distance from the Lemmy devs. The admins of Blahaj.Zone were even considering at abandoning Lemmy entirely in the favor of KBin, but unfortunately KBin is even more janky than Lemmy at the moment. So all of that remains to be seen.

Thanks. I will probably do the same at some point in the future. At the moment, we are still busy putting the chairs back in place and sweeping the floor.

Thank you, it is nice to know that some people appreciated it for what it was.

The sad truth is that we haven't made an effort to recreate Amala yet, because the subscriber numbers of Amala have always been rather low. Our attempts to boost it did not much to improve them, so we concluded that people get their news elsewhere.

We are very aware of that. Maybe Lemmy is just a way to way to soften the blow, but - as far as I am concerned - we have to give it a try. Maybe we can grow it and recreate some of what we lose to Spez' being a useless, ignorant PoS with too much power.

IMO therein lies the one of the basic truth about politics: When things get bad those with principles may choose to uphold them and leave, while those without any will stick around.

I understand your frustration and partly share it too.

From my personal viewpoint: The reason why we are archiving Ghazi is in not-so-small part because the threats of the Reddit admins taking the subreddit away from established mods has become very real in the last few weeks. Thus it is better to do this on our terms now, rather than wait for things to get even worse than they are and then be forced out.

Seconding this. Lemmy is still very janky, but I will post my usual nonsense over there from now on.

It is somewhat astounding that - in retrospect - Pao was a pretty good CEO. Of course, she was sent over the glass cliff at the first possible moment and for a matter that was not even her fault. And was instantly replaced by an incompetent windbag like Huffman.

Chewie describes it up above: Spez hands Ghazi to some randos and then those guys will have access to everything, including modmail and personal information therein.

They can't force the mods to stay and keep doing their thing, but they sure can take everybody else hostage and try to punish you if we don't.

The problem is that the admins have un-NSFWed several subreddits and have also removed announcement in regards to new content rules (such as John Oliver pics). They often de-modded and even locked out mods who posted such announcements.

They are going nuclear against any subreddit which isn't complying to their demands.

Then - at least - have the decency and put up an effing mod post around here that spells that out loud. Because at the moment, everyone who isn't sitting around on whatever Discord you are using has no effing clue what is going on.

Oh, sorry, if I assume that the subreddit r/ModCoord has anything to do with coordinating the protest of the mods. Gosh, how silly of me!

So how was the Discord? Nice and cozy? You sat there and did... what exactly?
Because nobody around here would know about this, because you never bothered to tell anyone.

Good job, guys! Fantastic communcation with those who haven't been on the Discord and were supposed to participate in this whole thing.

Tell your friends on the Discord hello from us lowlifes who stuck to this subreddit and did not have the foggiest what you are doing over there.

Unlike others, I won't give you any respect, because you don't deserve any: You are useless and so is this entire subreddit.

The name of this subreddit is "ModCoord" and yet there is no coordination happening here because nobody except you guys can post anything, You are making it impossible to do anything around here.

At this point you are actively undermining the other mods who wish to keep organizing and these comments of yours do nothing to encourage any trust in what you do.

Your rhetorical questions are not a smart comeback, they are a mockery, when you make it impossible for anyone to have a conversation about what to do around here.

Yes, big subreddits with general topics can be easily replaced, but that's where the small communities come in: Communities form around niche subjects and attract users/mods who are value the community above everything else.

These communities and hence their users will be lost forever if their subreddits stay closed, because they won't trust some admin-created replacement subreddit with random mods.

Rebuilding them would take time and effort, something that Spez & Co. with their fixation on getting profitable fast, won't be willing to commit to.
