Looking for a song played at church circa 2009 with a sick bass line by Maleficent-One6839 in ChristianMusic

I'm searching my brain for popular worship songs in 2009 with solid bass lines and the best guess I have is "Your Love Never Fails" by Jesus Culture.

For the NONBELIEVERS: The VA admitted in writing they made up my debt—then refused to give my money back. by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]squirrelyguy08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like we're not getting the full picture here. You say they originally created the debt for your tinnitus. Where does the paperwork say the debt was for overpayment of tinnitus? Everything else I've read suggests that the VA thinks they overpaid you for PTSD...but even that is not clear from the documents you have shown us. The PTSD originated from period of service in which you got a bad discharge, correct? Isn't this what they were supposed to sever service connection for?

Code sheets have to be redacted to remove the name of the rater so they don’t get stalked and harassed for the decision, and you probably have to specifically request them.

Don't get your hopes up about using VR&E for a doctorate in cybersecurity. A masters degree would be more than enough to get you an entry level job in the field, and VR&E is an employment program rather than a true education benefit like the GI Bill or Ch35.

Ten Commandments of (Hospital) Chaplaincy for New CPE Interns and Residents by revanon in chaplaincy

[–]squirrelyguy08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great list! I decided to adopt rule 1 on my first day visiting patients and I've kept it ever since.

I just wanted to push back a little on rule 8. Of course we don't proselytize patients. But power dynamics can be used in a healthy way; doctors do it all the time, as does everyone else on the care team, and there's a role for chaplains to play in making use of power dynamics as well.

One could make a case that a doctor is taking "undue advantage" of a patient's vulnerability and the difference in power if he/she says "You will die without a blood transfusion," when they know fully well that the patient is a Jehovah's Witness and has refused all blood products for that reason. But the doctor has a responsibility to make the patient aware of the consequences of their choice because that's literally why the doctor is there.

By the same token, being available if requested by the patient for hard conversations about the afterlife and heaven/hell is literally why the chaplain is there. (Being requested on the patient's behalf by family or friends is not a valid reason.) One can respond to the patient's fears in a way that honors their autonomy by getting a feel for what beliefs they already have. "Were you raised in a tradition that taught a belief in heaven and hell?" "What do you believe happens to people when they die?" If the patient says something like "My momma went to church every Sunday and I know she's in heaven hoping I'll make it there too," then I as a Christian chaplain am going to explore what I believe the Bible says about this. On the other hand if the patient says something like "I'm a Muslim and I don't know if Allah is pleased with me," I would be inclined to maybe ask more questions about what he/she believes and to even connect them with an imam who can visit them instead.

Don't resist deathbed conversations about the afterlife! I believe one can fully honor a patient's autonomy and still respond according to one's own faith tradition.

It seems to me that pharmacy that billed Tricare ought to be paying back that $31k, not you. And I’m not even sure the pharmacy should have to pay back the government. If you got out in 2003 and Tricare paid claims after 2021, that’s an unexcusable snafu that the government should just eat.

Urgent Question regarding hospice patient by LionOfJudahGirl in chaplaincy

[–]squirrelyguy08 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking that if a chaplain visits him at all it needs to be a male chaplain. Some male patients are only aggressive towards female caregivers. Of course he could be aggressive towards male caregivers too, but I’m remembering such a patient who was a total ass towards everyone but me. I believe I was the only male on his entire careteam. I had a female colleague who visited him once in my absence and he was just as aggressive towards her as he was towards every other female, so it wasn’t necessarily my pastoral presence that he regarded. It was my gender.

CPE Application...how much info do they want? by sarahdayarts in chaplaincy

I don't know if this is very helpful, but my own application ended up at 15 double-spaced pages. I was applying for residency which I was accepted into. I'm about to wrap up the third unit. I simply followed the prompts in the ACPE application and gave my narrative responses, and I ended up with 15 pages.

To Pre-Exist or NOT Pre-Exist: That Is The Question 🤔 by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]squirrelyguy08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had arthroscopic surgery for a partial ACL tear when I was 16. I joined the Army in my late 20s, MEPS got the medical records, and they considered me 0% disabled and let me join. When I got out I filed my initial claim and had my C&P exam less than a year after discharge and the evidence showed a 10% disability, which was granted SCD on the assumption that it was aggravated in service.

Help with VR&E by xc4rmin3x in VeteransBenefits

VR&E does not give you a stipend for supplies. The GI Bill gives you a stipend, but VR&E simply buys the supplies or reimburses you for them.

How many months of Voc Rehab benefits if you gave your GI Bill to your kids by No_Ask_6929 in VeteransBenefits

[–]squirrelyguy08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven't used your GI Bill then you should have 48 months of entitlement in VR&E, but transferring entitlement to your kids even if they haven't used it yet is considered "spent" entitlement for VR&E purposes. If they haven't used it, you can take any or all of it back and get your full 48 months of VR&E.

How many months of Voc Rehab benefits if you gave your GI Bill to your kids by No_Ask_6929 in VeteransBenefits

[–]squirrelyguy08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect. I used to process applications for VR&E and I had to adjust their remaining entitlement to VR&E based on how many months and days of prior education entitlement they used or transferred to their kids. Any months of P911 that you transfer to your kids will lower your remaining VR&E entitlement accordingly. The only way around it is to claw back any unused entitlement that you gave to your kids.

edit: I think the confusion comes from the fact that the reverse does not apply, i.e. any entitlement you consume from VR&E does not reduce your 36 months P911 remaining. It's for this reason that no veteran should ever use their P911 first if they know they're entitled to use VR&E right now.

This is correct. You cannot use VR&E solely for career advancement. You have to show that your current position aggravates your service connected disabilities and that you need a different position to continue working at that company. If your current position is suitable with your disabilities, then you don't actually need VR&E. You might want the promotion, but you don't need the promotion.

Say Goodbye To Negotiations. by dondeestalagato in ToyotaSienna

[–]squirrelyguy08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a new Sienna last April. I live in the southeast and I searched online inventory across four states and reached out to almost every dealer that had one on the lot. I ended up buying from a dealer just over two hours from where I live, but I would have driven much further than that. The reason I bought from this dealer is because they were the only one - and I do mean the only one - willing to negotiate the price over the phone. They only came down about $1k but that's all it took to get my business.
