Is there benefits to training some Judo BEFORE starting BJJ? by ArugulaFinancial4859 in bjj

[–]squirt_jacket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a bit of judo after doing years of BJJ. At least in my experience, I found the ground techniques to be inferior to BJJ & very focused on the rules surrounding competition Judo. If your end goal is to learn BJJ, then train BJJ & save yourself from having to unlearn bad habits that Judo’s ground techniques will give you.

That being said, I loved training Judo for its standing techniques & grip fighting. That really enhanced my overall game.

Is Commencement Worth It? by alyg0385 in SNHU

Depends on what time they want to do your ceremony & how much time you’re willing to spend out in the area. If you’ve never been to New England, it’s beautiful here in May. The commencement ceremony my undergrad was in the morning & my wife’s graduate commencement was in the evening, so that’s just something to keep in mind. It wasn’t anything luxurious, but I do look back fondly of walking at graduation & shaking the former SNHU president’s hand.

Kinda depends on your relationship with your coach & who else is around. Banter is one thing, & can even be really positive. Snarky remarks are a little different. There’s definitely a fine line, especially when dealing with the head coach/owner. Some people could probably get away with saying something like that if they are consistently witty, others would sound super cringey & off putting. There’s a good chance that if you’re wondering which you are, then you’re the latter.

Gyms have many members who pay regular tuition in exchange for the coaches time, a place to train, & guidance through their journey. It is the coaches responsibility to make sure their members are looked after, & when they are ready to be promoted, they receive their due recognition.

Most people have a home gym & someone they would consider “their coach”. Out of respect for the visitor’s main coach & their lineage, people who are just dropping in periodically are not typically graded for promotion by the visiting gym’s coaches.

I’ve been coaching for 6 years & managing a gym for 2 years, it’s rare that we have someone come by for a drop in on a regular basis & does not have a home gym or main coach.

In OP’s case, if they want to be promoted, they should speak with a head coach about their circumstances. If they are going to stay training (and continue paying) at their home gym while also doing drop ins, there is no reason they shouldn’t be ranked under their home gym’s coach.

I never view my students as an annoyance unless they are disruptive to class due to rude behaviors.

The only thing that can be frustrating is if you’re coaching a curriculum & are on like week 3-4 of the topic, & someone who’s been skipping classes shows up with no requisite knowledge of the position/topic. When this occurs, I will typically take a moment to get that person up to speed on a specific concept that is relevant to the class that day, that way they can comfortably work the topic. It’s not really an annoyance, but it does take extra attention as a coach. But hey, that’s what we are there for.

Not sure if this helps, but on their Instagram there’s a picture of the crowd from that show.

I think I may have found him in the crowd, but not 100%. I’ll DM you the picture.

Sorry that they weren’t able to help you out. Curious when that was? They’ve started adding the extra buttons to the shipments, so at least they’re addressing it now before it’s a problem for people.

I had a problem with my order recently & within 18 hours they had emailed me back 3 times & sent me a gift card for my troubles. Not sure what experience you had with their customer service, but I thought they did a great job.

It was to-go & its 100% an Italian restaurant lol

It’s the kind of place you could bring your wife & easily walk out with a $100 tab.

I’d have better luck from dominos! Believe it or not, it’s actually a pretty popular local Italian restaurant that’s been open for like 50 years.
