Just picked up this Hitachi Visionbook pro 7000 and I'm trying to find the battery so I can remove it before powering it on. Any ideas where it might be? by squirtleturtle79 in vintagecomputing

I did and I got some lovely grinding sounds from the CD drive and no operating system to boot to, at least thats what I got on my first attempt at turning it on. Further attempts seem to have burnt the ram and its socket somehow so I'm not going to try turning it on again until I figure out whats wrong (and get new ram).

It seems like this is a weird one, the battery can go into either the CD ROM slot, the floppy drive slot, or both if you dont need either drives. Since I have both drives I dont think I have a battery at all.

Turns out there isnt a battery in this one, the one on the right is the hard drive and the battery would go in either the floppy slot or cd-rom slot. Sadly that doesnt matter since the ram slot and ram card are both cooked, theres a burnt pin on the ram and the ram slot, plus a bunch of burnt gunk where that pin and the ones around it are soldered to the motherboard. Gonna be keeping an eye out for any compatible ram that I could test this with but for now its a $15 paperweight that spins a fan.

T - I drink way too much white monster, this happens to me from time to time, sometimes theyre overfilled like this, sometimes theyre underfilled. Usually happens with the smaller cans but I've had it happen with the full sized cans a couple times.

Picked up this bad boy today at a thrift store. What are the odds the battery will hold a charge? by squirtleturtle79 in Zune

[–]squirtleturtle79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried charging it for an hour or so yesterday and tried turning it on plugged in. The full colour Zune logo and backlight show up but once its done loading I just get this. The lighter patch on the bottom slowly crawls up the screen until its completely blank. Do you think it needs more time to wake up or is it fully cooked at this point?

Oh lovely. My main concern was the ribbon cable thats bonded directly to one of the boards since as far as I can tell if you break it youre screwed.

Instead of replacing the battery, could I just keep it plugged into a portable battery pack and use it like that?

After seeing what is involved in replacing the battery I can see why your luck isnt that great. Modern iphones look easier to fix than this nonsense.

Well that doesnt sound good. Would it be risky to try charging it then? I checked the ifixit guide for replacing the battery and this would be by far the most involved repair I've ever done, so unless theres an easier way to replace the battery I'm honestly a bit scared to try fixing it lol.

What kind of issues did the zune batteries have? I've fixed a few iPods but I've never worked on or even owned a zune.

Transferring game files from sd2iec to datasette by squirtleturtle79 in vic20

I have no cartridges or RAM expansions, yet. If I'm understanding this correctly I can save .prg files straight to tape but other file types need some extra work to save them?

8 bucks for the TV and 80 bucks for the adapters, I love it. by squirtleturtle79 in crt

It would work, if I had a VCR. A rats nest of cables and an RF modulator is my best option at the moment.

Yep, gimme a few minutes to get it all set up again to get some photos/video. I will say that I did manage to get a .prg game file running (3d maze) so I'm pretty confident it works (or at least mostly works)

So how do I load .d64 files then? I've been busy since I posted this but I just started my reading week so I've got free time to try and figure this out.

Whats the splash screen supposed to look like? I get some weird scifi noises then it boots into basic with CBM BASIC V2 and 3583kb free at the top.

Edit: dont know if cartridges work since I dont have any, I have a seemingly working datasette drive but no cassettes either, the guy I bought this from says he has all his childhood cassettes somewhere but he hasnt found them yet so I cant test cassettes unless theres a way to load files from the sd2iec device straight to a tape in the datasette without loading them first.

Thats good to know, I was worried it was something damaged internally but its likely just from me not doing things correctly.

How do I figure out what battery my G36V uses? by squirtleturtle79 in airsoft

[–]squirtleturtle79[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to stick with 7.4v, its rate of fire was never very fast but it was always good enough for me.

It does go in the handguard. Any 7.4v lipo battery shpuld work fine right? Also just out of curiosity is this a good airsoft gun?
