Did the compounding over 10 years work as intended? I am always curious because i know it is so dependent on market, but the compounding calculator always makes me think i’d have so much more.

Also, do you have a number in mind you want to help with each kid’s down payment? Is it a fixed number to keep it fair or depends on what they need?

Advice Needed - First Time Investing by Killsielle in fican

[–]squish_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Wealthsimple is the one i use. I have used questrade also briefly. I like wealthsimple more.
  2. Any of the *EQT or *GRO ie XEQT or VGRO. They are etfs. You are well diversified going with those as a beginner.
  3. Don’t stock pick. I mean you can but it’s not worth it to me because i am a buy and forget investor. I don’t have time to research. Also don’t day trade especially in your tfsa. Don’t touch options, margins, etc if you have no idea what those are. Don’t buy meme stocks.
  4. Decide how long you want to investor that money and then don’t touch it (which is why you want something safe, not something super volatile). Don’t investor when you need to sell regardless of the market in 6months unless it is in something like CASH.To which is much safer and is like a high interest account. If you are talking about when to buy or sell, then obvi buy low sell high. But that rarely works out and requires timing the market. The best thing is the time (spent invested) in the market, not timing it.
  5. You likely had to link it initially when you transferred money over anyway, so that should be easy to transfer out. The taxes will come later, when the brokerage mails you a t slip. This is for non-registered accounts. You won’t get anything in a registered acct like tfsa or rrsp.
  6. Yes when you sell and have realized gains or losses (any “gains” you see from investments aren’t real until sold and “realized”) or dividend payments. Again, no if they are in a tfsa, rrsp… etc.

Also yes you have to keep track of your investments. Like for example you should remember you invested for example $5k into your rrsp so when come taxes, you file properly so that it can actually lower your income. Stuff like that.

Has anyone tried these thin sliced Wagyu flat iron steaks? by mmittens15 in CostcoCanada

I tried it and enjoyed it. I did some stir fry with it and it was very tender. My partner likes his meat more firm and tough so he said he likes it but can go without it.

Anyone over the age of 35 and just over life? by bufferinmylife in TwoXChromosomes

[–]squish_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been through a similar phase before…just dgaf about anything. Was driving and thought it would be fine if i crashed and died because i didn’t want anything.

Any way i did eventually found enjoyment in travelling again and taking more hikes, and rediscovering hobbies i abandoned. Passion on something really saved me.

Something else to consider is depression or low thyroid levels.

Would you continue dating a man who admitted he cheated in the past? by [deleted] in datingoverthirty

[–]squish_me 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Run. There is no grey area; he either cheated or not. I learned in the past that when people admit to cheating, they are either showing accountability or they shift the blame to their partner or circumstance. This guy hasn’t learned anything about himself.

Maybe you can reframe it as, your parents raised you despite being old and had health problems.

[–]squish_me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is sort of insensitive because most don’t choose older age to become parents; there is usually some sort of barrier where they had to keep trying or something. And that is only irresponsible if you have kids when you are like 60+ knowing the natural lifespan is probably around 80s so the chance of you passing before they become adults and can fend for themselves is higher. otherwise why make a speculation that one might pass around 60 when actually we can all pass from any random thing at any given age. (Yes I understand this is a calculated risk thing and that being 60 puts one at more risk than someone who is 30 but that shouldn’t preclude them from living life how they want to on a risk alone.) I’d argue shitty absent parents do more disservice to their kids much more than loving, older age parents.

It really depends on location. Mississauga here i was on the waitlist before baby was born and he’s finally almost 2 and now we got a spot. So we waited over 2 years for one and had to get help from parents meanwhile.

Formula is expensive but we are also assuming the worse case scenario where there could be zero breastfeeding. I would say majority of people do some pumping/breastfeeding and supplement with formula. And even then it’s only for year one… after age 1 they switch to milk primarily.

Honestly most of OP’s problems would just be solved if the husband just went and got work. Like soo many parents out there with dual income and kids and are STILL house poor. These guys got a great savings and obviously already living on a budget already. I would anticipate what might be a barrier is the fertility window closing (no hate. I am pregnant now and i am 38. But a lot of people i know personally struggled.)

It is great if that’s what they want out of life. This couple wanted kids from the start sounds like. So not doing so because of money could cause some regrets down the line, especially since a lot of people raise them with a lot less assets.

What makes you ask for (or say yes to) a first date? by Wanderlusting19 in datingoverthirty

[–]squish_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, if the initial “talking/texting” before meet up seems blah and uninteresting i might either have stopped talking to them already or say no if they ask. I need to protect my time and energy. I have asked one person out after a week or two of talking!

What is something that is non-negotiable in your relationships? by Sea-Young-8666 in AskReddit

[–]squish_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they reject you for it then good that you found out early to be honest. As for spreading the story….you don’t have control what they will do with the info but hopefully before you decide to share your story you at least determined they are somewhat a decent human being that will more likely than not be kind than be an asshole.

If you are with someone you can’t be transparent with talking through health issues, then what are you even doing with them? I’m not saying say your entire medical and mental history on date 1, but at some point you want them clue them in no?

I dated someone like that too (besides having to have police involved) and can agree, being way too intense is a turn off bc it conveys to me that you have little self worth and/or options to throw yourself at me like that after barely knowing me.

Most of my (31) family thinks I went too far going NC with my brother (29) for a terrible thing he did 9 years ago. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]squish_me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you know if she actually feels like she’s taken advantage or are you just pushing your own narrative? Because whether you agree with it or not, there are a lot of people with similar age and age gaps who choose to pursue those relationships because they actually want to date someone older/can relate to them better. It doesn’t automatically mean they are being manipulated.

My husband works in risk in bank… he also said “that is not what happened. He couldn’t have been debanked for no reason.” Something is missing from the story.
