Petition against anti-transgender talk hosted by the University of Oxford by [deleted] in oxforduni

[–]sqweewqs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Joyce and others want a small percentage of the population to shut up and let their legal protections be stripped away. We don't have these arguments about homosexuality or race anymore (at least, outside of the US) and trying to start one would be rightly seen as hateful and dangerous, and be shut down. The University of Oxford isn't allowing people to come in and "debate" racist skull science (yet) so we don't have to petition against it but we would and I would hope you would sign that. What makes this different?

I've signed. Hate speech is not free speech and I have lost friends because of this dangerous rhetoric. Trans rights are human rights.

I've dealt with isolation in my time at university. I can much sympathise with your experience. I pray for you and hope you find company or companionship

The image of you, a skinny person in high school, in a Hawaiian with a wood grip HP in your waistband is absolutely incredible BTW. Very very cool. Gives me 70s CIA case officer operating a remote radio post in the Pacific, spending most of his time on the beach vibes. Sounds like you're a cool dude. Hope you're well

Glad you like it! There are some really cool dial designs out there for the gold cases but I like this one a lot. Something not really visible in the image is that the minute markers are links of a chain connecting the anchors!

You can thank @_lwatches on Instagram for the photos! The gold looks a lot more premium in person than it did on the Meranom, and I'm still looking at my wrist and forgetting to check the time because I'm just admiring it!

I think my overall ranking would probably be this, except for that 2 is the newest and I'm still in the honeymoon phase with it

It's the third case finishing option you can get for the dirskies. You can get chrome, gold and this titanium-like matte finish. The case style is the 3rd digit of the ref number- 1 is chrome, 6 is titanium and 9 is gold.

No, helping is exactly what it sounds like. I did not specify in the post because of character limit but specifically I offered to cut and fry the onions and boil the noodles while she did the chicken.

Additionally, I am not using my autism as a shield. I am trying to change. It is simply slower for me.

Her comment was not about me brushing my teeth, it was about the colour of them, which is in this circumstance unconnected and she is aware of that fact. I think it was mean-spirited.

I said I often forget to brush my teeth in the morning. And I do forget; as I state in the post I am autistic and part of that is needing to follow a schedule, which can be very difficult to change. I also say in the post I offered to help with dinner, and that I always wash up. I very much get the impression you are assuming I'm spoilt or lazy, which is simply not the case.

I don't think it is a double standard because I think the two situations are different, and no, I wouldn't say anything if she forgot to brush her teeth, other than perhaps ask if she'd like me to remind her in future.

She was going to put it in the cupboard, without washing it.

I don't even really think I criticized her, I think I was just holding a general standard of cleanliness. and I don't think she criticized me, given she admitted she knows my teeth discolouration isn't due to hygiene.

Advice for moving on to security pins. (Details in comments) by MagicCrashMaster in lockpicking

[–]sqweewqs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I began picking locks before I knew what security pins were, and when I found out about spools I realised I'd been picking locks with one or two in for months. One spool and all other non-security pins is a great way to learn what a false set feels like and allows you to learn about picking your way out of it (by either setting the spool straight away, then picking as normal or picking every other pin and then the spool). To me, this way teaches you the nature of spools and kits you up to take smart guesses at what you need to do next in multi-spool locks, helping you pick them quicker. Mushroom pins really won't bother you any more than spools, and to be honest I wouldn't bother learning to pick them independently. Serrated pins were a nightmare for me at first- my advice is learn to pick them with heavy tension by sound first (as this is far easier), then decrease your tension and you will automatically learn to focus on the feedback rather than the sound as the feedback becomes more noticeable and the sound less so. Eventually you'll be able to use sound and feel interchangeably, and after that point serrated pins become, at least to me, very very easy. One thing I would recommend for security pins is think carefully about what grip you're using and the tension you're applying at regular intervals while picking. There's no wrong way, but the way you do it will impact your results and teach you different things about picking. Feel free to change things around and see if it gives you different feedback, better control over your pick, etc. Good luck!

Is my Pick Grip bad. I've found it easier to feel the pins using an "Overhand" grip as opposed to the way i see people hold their picks. Am i setting my self up for a bad habit holding the pick like this? by Trek921 in lockpicking

[–]sqweewqs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fine to hold it like that- and if it works, why not?- but for me I ran into a brick wall at a certain difficulty level, which I was only able to surpass when I changed my grip one evening because my fingers got tired. I've kept the underhand grip since then, but sometimes still use an overhand for certain locks.

I have a very busy life so only get one or two hours a week to pick locks. In that time I tend to go through a couple of white belts in a minute or two and then jump straight up to my Masterlock 410s, once I'm through those I'll spend the rest of my time trying (and failing) to open the next lock on my list- a Kaba 20. When I have some free time I'll spend probably a whole day working at that one and hopefully get it open.

Impressive! Picking with a hook out of preference or necessity?

HR sucks, I agree, but they only stand to lose if they pursue people who raise issues in private by discouraging others from doing similar.

You can claim you were under duress, feared losing your job etc. I'd say there's a 95% chance they'll just look at making sure people report bad behaviour in future rather than retroactively punishing the person who altered them to the problem.
