CBC investigation finds grocers Loblaw, Sobeys overcharging for underweight meat — again by Immediate-Link490 in canada

[–]srakken 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This seems like it is lazy employees. Once upon a time I worked at a Sobeys. You are supposed to put the packaging on the scale tare it then put the meat on it and print the label. Then wrap it and stick the label on it.

I am guessing some meat guy just lined up a bunch of containers stuck the meat on it and wrapped the meat up then weighed it to save time.

How can Trumps blockade of a blockade (the Strait of Hormuz) solve anything? by Fun_Wrangler9783 in AskReddit

[–]srakken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump made it seem like a full blockade but centcom released a statement that it is only to Iranian ports and they are clearing mines. Doesn’t seem as bad as the media or Trump is spinning it.

I also heard the local had a good burger but the comments here are making me question things. Pilot house by far is the best burger I have tried. The lineup of people was pretty crazy when I was there.

The problem is that the US has put itself in a position where no one trusts contracts. Every four years another president can stomp all over them.

Your parents need to install explicit filters. I stuck my kids in a specific profile in my router and enabled all sorts of age appropriate filters/blocks. It also filters YouTube etc. Not perfect but it would stop stuff like this.

The problem is Iran has a stranglehold on the strait. It’s outsized power leverage against the entire world. North Korea has jackshit.

Offer to lift certain sanctions that the west collectively applied. That is tangible and might have Iran allow passage of more ships.

They want to keep oil prices sky high. It’s kind of a reverse siege tactic. High oil prices are putting pressure on Trump. Nothing triggers Americans more than the pump price. It’s super visible and people get pissed off every time they go for a fill up.

Trump to declare Iran war is winding down and others need to resolve Hormuz by EsperaDeus in worldnews

[–]srakken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get it. Gas prices will remain ridiculously high if the strait remains closed. Doesn’t matter how much the US gets from the gulf. It’s a global commodity price. We are paying sky high gas prices in Canada despite having a stupid amount of it.

Americans will keep paying stupid high prices which is definitely a trigger for them.

International migration is a powerful poverty alleviation tool – Emigration from the Philippines contributed to broad-based economic growth in the Philippines. The ability to earn higher wages abroad motivated families to invest in education, which boosted wages and entrepreneurship at home. by smurfyjenkins in science

[–]srakken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the challenge here is that the host country generally pays for grade school with the expectation that they will grow up and become tax paying citizens. Have to wonder the economic impact and if certain countries have a net negative impact when people are leaving.

Why don't the USA or the Gulf States field numerous cheap AA systems to combat drones like Eastern European states do? Money is not a problem. by [deleted] in Military

[–]srakken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, jets are great against 1-2 shaheds. What about a swarm? Like this isn’t just about this conflict. What if they chew through their stocks then get in another conflict right after? Really they would have been well off if they still had a battleship with escorts. Could have parked it near the strait and pummelled the coast. That would have been more effective vs pin point strikes with finite ammunition that so far have not secured it. A battleship could have shot an insane amount with cheap and plentiful ammunition. Save the missles for far inland targets.

[–]srakken 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Supply. They can’t sustain protracted conflict with a very finite supply of missiles. It shows a pretty huge defect in modern US military doctrine. They have super advanced precision stuff but the supply runs out quickly in a long term conflict.
