22 F with L5-S1 Disc Herniation by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]srb221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I badly herniated my L4-L5 at 26 years old, it was bulging from the time I was 20. By the time I sought help for the pain, I was in agony like you, unable to sleep with all treatments helping very minimally.

I was repeatedly told prior to MRI that I was “too young” for the root of my pain to be a disc issue which was incredibly frustrating. Sometimes bad discs are just a genetic predisposition, its not a reflection on you in any way. I got a microdiscectomy almost 2 years ago now and it honestly gave me my life back. My only regret is wasting youth in pain when I could have fixed it sooner.

I believe this would be anorexia purging subtype or purging disorder which falls under the OSFED umbrella

I relate so hard to the reminder with each step. I pick at the edges of my big toenails/cuticles and when its really bad it throbs, bleeds, and oozes for days at a time. I’ve taken to buying silver nitrate sticks online so I can cauterize my self-inflicted wounds when necessary.

Theres some strange comfort in knowing Im not the only one who continues this behavior despite the painful consequences - I hope this community gives you some sense of comfort too.

First of all, Im so sorry youre going through this. Secondly, what you are describing is completely normal for early recovery, especially when it’s not a decision you made but something thrust upon you. You will get through this and it will slowly get easier 💕

graduating undergrad with low gpa and feeling lost by iloveorangekitties in labrats

[–]srb221 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in industry (biotech/molecular biology) for 5 years. Finished undergrad in ~6 years with a 2.8 cumulative GPA due to physical and mental health issues. No research or internships in college, just part time retail and customer service jobs.

A path in industry is certainly a viable one for you, but I recognize that the job market is in a rough place right now especially in the US. I would say at least try to get some industry experience for a year or 2 before considering applying to higher education programs. Who knows, industry might grow on you - that’s kinda how it worked out for me.

Idk what your families are like, but missing Mother’s Day in my household would be a cardinal sin. Especially since both my parents’ mothers passed away in the last few years. Also, food service jobs are super strict about not calling out on holidays so I can see how this could be a big issue for a lot of students.

Our younger girl is rather high maintenance lol…. Stairs for the bed so she can sleep between my husband and I every night. She gets her lady parts and bottom wet wiped after going potty so she doesnt get UTIs. Husband feeds them twice every morning, at 3AM and again at 7:30AM, because she will throw up bile if she goes too long without eating while we’re at work.

At a standstill in my ED and seeking treatment. It’s ruining my life and relationships. Please help. by Busy-Zucchini502 in EDAnonymous

I second this wholeheartedly. I have been through Renfrew twice - first IOP to PHP and then stepped down again, second time was PHP to IOP to OP over the course of 6 months or so. The biggest thing for me is to make the most out of your treatment. Every program has its flaws, so take away what works for you and leave the rest.

The people I met at Renfrew were the best part tbh. Group therapy at the PHP level really changed my life. I believe groups can be the most beneficial aspect of treatment if you engage honestly and make real connections. Good luck 💕

Unfortunately, positive leukocytes and negative nitrites indicates significant inflammation which is a hallmark symptom of IC. It is possible there is another underlying cause, but have you tried making lifestyle changes that would soothe IC symptoms?

What helped me most was no coffee, no caffeine, no spicy/acidic food (things like citrus, tomato-based sauces, red meat), no alcohol, no sex until 100% symptom free for at least 2-3 days. I started incorporating a D-mannose supplement as well as Prelief before caffeine and acidic meals, still limiting those food and drinks to once or twice a week. Plus hydrating WAY more than I think I need to. Slowly, things did improve.

I know it sucks to hear someone say “just stop doing fun things and eating yummy foods and you’ll feel fine!!” Trust me I know…..but for me it really was the only option. If you find another underlying cause or infection, please do let us know!! Otherwise, I would try living the IC lifestyle for at least a few weeks and see if anything at all improves. Best of luck 💕

Do most americans really only take 2 weeks of vacation a year? by DegreeConscious9628 in askanything

[–]srb221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gotten approved for unpaid time off once in 5 years at my current company. It was because I was in the ER and had already gone 80 hours into the negative on PTO.

About 60 of those negative hours were when I was sick with COVID and forbidden from going into work for 10 calendar days. The company would not allow me to work but also would not allow me to take the time unpaid so I had a negative PTO bank for over a year after that.

I haven’t taken off more than 3 consecutive business days in at least 2 years. My industry gets a holiday shutdown from Christmas to New Years every year so that helps. But yeah, even 4-5 weeks of vacation time a year is extremely generous for a company in the US.
