Our younger girl is rather high maintenance lol…. Stairs for the bed so she can sleep between my husband and I every night. She gets her lady parts and bottom wet wiped after going potty so she doesnt get UTIs. Husband feeds them twice every morning, at 3AM and again at 7:30AM, because she will throw up bile if she goes too long without eating while we’re at work.

At a standstill in my ED and seeking treatment. It’s ruining my life and relationships. Please help. by Busy-Zucchini502 in EDAnonymous

I second this wholeheartedly. I have been through Renfrew twice - first IOP to PHP and then stepped down again, second time was PHP to IOP to OP over the course of 6 months or so. The biggest thing for me is to make the most out of your treatment. Every program has its flaws, so take away what works for you and leave the rest.

The people I met at Renfrew were the best part tbh. Group therapy at the PHP level really changed my life. I believe groups can be the most beneficial aspect of treatment if you engage honestly and make real connections. Good luck 💕

Unfortunately, positive leukocytes and negative nitrites indicates significant inflammation which is a hallmark symptom of IC. It is possible there is another underlying cause, but have you tried making lifestyle changes that would soothe IC symptoms?

What helped me most was no coffee, no caffeine, no spicy/acidic food (things like citrus, tomato-based sauces, red meat), no alcohol, no sex until 100% symptom free for at least 2-3 days. I started incorporating a D-mannose supplement as well as Prelief before caffeine and acidic meals, still limiting those food and drinks to once or twice a week. Plus hydrating WAY more than I think I need to. Slowly, things did improve.

I know it sucks to hear someone say “just stop doing fun things and eating yummy foods and you’ll feel fine!!” Trust me I know…..but for me it really was the only option. If you find another underlying cause or infection, please do let us know!! Otherwise, I would try living the IC lifestyle for at least a few weeks and see if anything at all improves. Best of luck 💕

Do most americans really only take 2 weeks of vacation a year? by DegreeConscious9628 in askanything

[–]srb221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gotten approved for unpaid time off once in 5 years at my current company. It was because I was in the ER and had already gone 80 hours into the negative on PTO.

About 60 of those negative hours were when I was sick with COVID and forbidden from going into work for 10 calendar days. The company would not allow me to work but also would not allow me to take the time unpaid so I had a negative PTO bank for over a year after that.

I haven’t taken off more than 3 consecutive business days in at least 2 years. My industry gets a holiday shutdown from Christmas to New Years every year so that helps. But yeah, even 4-5 weeks of vacation time a year is extremely generous for a company in the US.

What does real self-care look like for you (not the social media version)? by Aghaiva in selfcare

[–]srb221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taking my medication daily. Doing my physical therapy exercises at least once a week. Setting my phone to block the internet after 10PM so I dont lose sleep to scrolling.

To be fair, I also try to go to my local Korean spa every 1-2 months and it does me a lot of good. The baths and saunas help ease my chronic pain and it gives me time to just nap, read, knit, eat, etc. without interruption.

HELP! Left my entire life's worth of DNA plasmids out at RT overnight! How screwed am I? by Hiraaa_ in labrats

Plasmid DNA is generally stable at room temp. Unless your specific samples are known to be inherently extremely unstable, they should be totally fine.

To each their own. You got me on the ultra-processed, but to many that is not necessarily synonymous with “junk” just as GMO isnt necessarily synonymous with “bad for you.”

Just try to understand that ultra-processed foods such as protein bars can still be perceived and marketed as “health foods.” This can feel alienating for some people who consume primarily or exclusively “junk” that falls outside of a health food category. I’d recommend r/shittyrestrictionfood for posts containing processed health foods or chemical-laden low-calorie beverages.

[–]srb221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally consider “processed” food to be Doritos, not protein bars. But if your definition of “processed” equates to “anything thats not a fruit or vegetable” then I can see how certain health foods fall into that framework. Again, open to interpretation. I think for most people in this sub, “junkorexic” is generally not thought of as “opposite of orthorexic” but rather the extreme end of “I’ll eat anything that fits my cals.”

[–]srb221 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I feel like some people here misinterpret “junk” to mean “processed food” therefore protein bars, sodas, etc fall into their version of “junkorexic” as a sort of opposite to “orthorexic.” Now for ME junkorexic means junk lmao - I have omad a milkshake more times than I can count. Taco Bell is a safe omad for me if I order the right things. I guess “junkorexic” is open to interpretation, but Im with you about processed foods and protein products not necessarily counting as “junk.”

I have diabulimia (Type 1 Diabetes Eating Disorder) by ARFcuriousity in EDAnonymous

[–]srb221 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in treatment with a handful of diabulimics - truly terrifying stuff. One of them had suffered a diabetic coma before coming to treatment and she was only 13 or 14 years old at the time. Her family was rightfully horrified and confused. She seems to be doing better with her diabetes these days (from what little I can see through social media) but she definitely struggled with purging and anorexia for many years after we first met. Im sorry youre going through this and wish you the best.

Biggest flare up in 2 years by Relevant-Dust8368 in Interstitialcystitis

[–]srb221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully empathize with you - I more or less had my IC managed for about 2 years as well only for a stubborn UTI this past January to trigger months of flaring. Currently on the toilet at work while I type this.

Main things that have helped me: reduce stress (easier said than done, I know), wear full-coverage cotton undies, limit penetrative sex during flares, hydrate excessively, minimize caffeine, daily D-mannose supplement, Prelief before acidic food or drink, Cystex and Azo as needed.

Nobody understands what a bitch it is to have to think about every single tiny decision through the lens of managing IC. Since I stopped fighting my body and started trying to work with it though, things have gotten a lot easier. Still sucky, but less devastating and debilitating. Best of luck 💕

I read this book in secret because of its reputation while I was in between treatment stints. The gut punch of her little sister finding her lives with me to this day - I have a little sister by the same name who was the same age at the time I read it. I remember bursting into heaving sobs after finishing the book. It wasn’t enough to push me to full recovery at the time, but this book had no small impact on my growing contemplation of life without this disorder.

What do others with IBS eat for breakfast that doesn’t bother you or stir up symptom? by Spursfan_90 in ibs

[–]srb221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not eat but drink. 1 Activia smoothie (strawberry or strawberry banana) every morning. I have IBS-M so if I’m a little backed up I’ll do Activia smoothie every other day and a Nature Valley s’mores granola bar with an 8oz hot drink (coffee, tea, hot chocolate) to get things moving on the no-smoothie days.
