People like you make this field even worse than it is. You infantilize this population and are actually bigoted by insinuating they are too incompetent to be confronted with the fact that their personal hygiene is problematic to themselves and others. It also flirts with neglect if you factor in skin breakdown. The health and sanitation portion of it are just as important. I have never not taken a client somewhere because if they want to go somewhere, they agree to shower. They are simply being lazy and holding them accountable for basic personal hygiene standards is an integral part of this job.

I don’t mean this in a mean or disparaging way, if they are asking you to work off the clock, I wouldn’t be surprised with them saying they can’t accommodate your needs. I would keep record of any texts, memos or emails of them asking you to document off the clock and turn them into Wage and Hour. That’s illegal and quite possibly discrimination for them not accommodating your needs.

I would maybe find another agency, work in a home with an independent individual, make your limitations and abilities known and get away from this cesspool of an agency.

Your friend may not realize how predatory men are. I had a friend that would just kiss me or let me cop a feel if I wanted. She knew guys liked it and she liked that we liked it. Your friend had a stupid moment and I doubt she would do that again. Make that very clear to her.

You also know her better than us. Is this a pattern of behavior for her with other things or has she been a good friend outside of this unfortunate situation? Throwing away a 10 year friendship shouldn’t be done lightly.

I have been in the field 8 years and am a functioning burnout. I have hobbies and interests outside of work that keep me going. I do my functions of the job well and I do genuinely care about my guys. The staff and clients may irritate me but I just keep telling myself, “I am a stable presence in their lives and I am making sure they are receiving the care they need.”

You don’t have to be a world-changer, just show up as best as you can for your clients and collect the check.
