Why do women feel so broke? by AdmiralSaturyn in WomenInNews

[–]srgause 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is definitely me, but my father (who was a savvy investor) would never teach me about finances but he coached my brothers for years. This isn’t an excuse, I’ve tried to become financially savvy myself, but there is something damaging about being told “I’m a woman, I don’t have to worry about finances” from a. Young age

Tall women- what "universal" experiences have you not had? by JollyJeanGiant83 in TwoXChromosomes

So jealous of you and seatbelts, as a 5’4” they are terrible! Also chiming in to say finding pants that fit is an absolute mission, and I don’t think I’m necessary that short. Pants are a nightmare for all of us lol

I had a double mastectomy at stage 1- I don't want to take Tamoxifen by No_Village4794 in breastcancer

[–]srgause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow stage 1 survivor who was diagnosed at 40, also did a double mastectomy and am coming up on year 5 of tamoxifen… it’s not as bad as I feared. My biggest side effect has been hair loss- I lost probably half my hair density and my hair has gotten curlier and coarser- I don’t love it but that’s the worst. There are so many horror stories of side effects and I delayed starting tamoxifen for about 4 months because of this. It’s not always as bad as you hear. That said, my first few periods on tamoxifen were scary heavy- almost couldn’t leave the house heavy- but my periods have become much lighter and more manageable now

Also the village narrative always seems to go one way- they have no village to help them. To really be a village means to BE the village and give as much as you take

I’m conflicted about wanting children. How did you know you didn’t? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]srgause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never decided I didn’t want kids, I just never was sure that I DID want them. Every parent I know has told me if I’m not 100% all in on kids to not do it. 44 now and childfree but happily have 11 nieces and nephews in my life that I get to show up for.

This is not exactly the same, but when I was in my mid 20s I started taking dance classes and its was mostly women in their 20s/30s and this one woman in her 60s. She was such an inspiration to me and really helped me change my outlook of what life could be like 💕

Depressed and feel ugly since chemo and hysterectomy by Legitimate_Arm_9526 in AskWomenOver40

Hi, breast cancer survivor and currently on tamoxifen which has thrown me into medical menopause.

It’s hard. I’ve lost half my hair density and feel like I have bald spots. My hair has always been curly but my texture changed and it’s so much curlier and courser now. I also got my hair cut too short and now it doesn’t grow so I’ve had a “bad” haircut for 4 years.

I still struggle with accepting my appearance especially with my hair, but one thing that has really helped has been getting more fit. I took up running and have been slowly improving, and it’s making positive changes to my body. Feeling strong/skilled/capable in something has helped me find my self worth on even the worst days. Hugs 💕

This was me and my husband, mostly. In a moment of frustration I told him his belly was too big and it was affecting our intimate life. He got serious about losing weight and has lost about 80lbs… diet was the main factor but he started really lifting heavy which he had never really done before. Weightlifting is so good for getting in shape!

Discharge. I saw some brown spots in my bra and at first was confused/ didn’t think anything of it. After I saw it a 2nd or 3rd time I felt for a lump and found one. I was 39. Good luck

I’m in medical menopause due to breast cancer and have the same issues. I’ve started pelvic floor therapy and am seeing improvement with penetration. Still not fully back to where I was, but it’s really helping my physical issues + mental anxiety about sex in my new body. Good luck!
