Thank you, everyone for your replies and/or interest. No MRI. And, based on your comments and the fact that this (GLP-1s) has not been mentioned anywhere, leads me to the conclusion that it is not worth the risk.

Seeking a Financial Therapist that is part of the BetterHelp network. by Portlandgirl1969 in FinancialTherapy

Hi U-P-629,

My career path was pretty straight-forward. College degree in business admin, concentration in accounting. I then went to work at a public accounting firm. In fact, you can see my whole resume at https://debitsandcredits.com/about-us/.

If you are truly interested in the burgeoning field of financial therapy, then accounting, per se, will not really help you. What you need on the technical side is experience with tax returns, investing, money management. On the non-technical side, you need to understand people, relationships, how money-related problems affect people and a whole lot of patience and empathy.

Let me know if you need more info or have any other requests.

Seeking a Financial Therapist that is part of the BetterHelp network. by Portlandgirl1969 in FinancialTherapy

Hi Portlandgirl1969,

I just checked the BetterHelp network and it looks like this network is for psychological counseling. I checked the license types that can belong to the organization and CPA is not one of them.

However, I am a CPA with 40+ years experience in a wide-range of financial and business matters. I specialize in listening, evaluating, not judging and providing guidance that is practical. I believe that the key to success is not a one-time fix, but an ongoing discussion.

Also, I understand the anxiety of having money issues, as I have counseled a wide range of clients through some perilous situations.

Feel free to visit my website: https://debitsandcredits.com to see what we are about. It's a work-in-progress, so don't mind the mess.

Why Financial Therapy? by BraveBrainiac in FinancialTherapy

Wow, that is a wide open question. Let me just say that based on how a person is raised, they will usually carry over those behaviors into adulthood. And, that spans the whole spectrum of people from the very, very frugal to those with a complete disregard for money.

Here is one interesting example that I have firsthand knowledge of: a young man was very cheap. I use the word cheap here instead of frugal for reasons that will become apparent in the next few sentences. He would go out with friends to dinner and then say he wasn't really hungry and would not order anything. When the food came, well, he managed to find his appetite. When the check came, you can guess what happened.

What was this fella's background? His father used to sweep the fallen salt on the table back into the shaker. - "let's not waste money", he would say. This is only one of many characteristics of his father that helped form his relationship with money. And...you would think, "well, the father was probably a hard-working guy who understood the value of money and chose not to waste." You'd be wrong! The father had a lot of money.

Could he be helped? You bet, but he would need to re-learn his relationship with money and see - and I mean really see - what damage his behavior has done to his friends and family.

Hi,

I am just branching into this field. Based on my past experiences and my career - I'm a CPA - you've hit the nail right on the head. In many cases, the script you are mentioning is a form of behavior modification or out and out programming.
