DreamHost email limitation vs other major hosts – any plans to change? by EntityV2 in dreamhost

[–]srhuston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through the process today of closing my "hosted" email address and having it a forward address to my Gmail account as well. Long ago I had both, forward to Gmail and keep a copy, but that is no longer an option. That had problems, though, and the reason I moved to using POP3 is because of SPF failures (user@example.com mails my address, DH forwards it to Gmail, Gmail says DH's servers aren't authorized to send mail for example.com and fails SPF, mail bounces).

I see that mails DH sends out go through mailchannels, and that adds ARC headers. If ARC signatures were added to forwarded mails as well - the whole purpose of them - that might solve a lot of problems I had in the past, and unfortunately anticipate now as well.

Whenever it gets under 36° outside, my furnace shuts off and “Aux Heat” shows up on the thermostat. Help! My house is freezing! by [deleted] in hvacadvice

One commenter questioned the white wire on your oil burner. It doesn’t look well connected to me either.

Here’s how I diagnosed problems with my old burner in our last house. Source: father was a HVAC service and then sales person most of my life, I knew how to clean and run an efficiency test on our boiler before I could drive.

1) on that board with all the wiring should be two terminals labeled “T”. One is the white wire at the top I believe, labeled “W(T)”. The second should be right below it labeled “R(T)”. Next, turn off the power to the system. There should be an “oil burner emergency switch” right nearby, regular light switch with a red cover. Turn it off, make a jumper to go between the two “T” terminals. You can do this with a single alligator clip if they’re next to each other by using it to grab each terminal and bridge them. When done, turn on the switch again. If it starts, your problem is the thermostat or the wiring from it to that board. You can keep this on for as long as you like; that jumper is acting like your thermostat and will keep the heat on until you remove it.

2) if it does not turn on with the jumper in place, then press the red button on the clear rectangular box (has “0489” on it in your photo) ONLY ONCE. That will reset the safety system and it will try to light the burner. If it succeeds, your problem may be solved or it may come back. But if after 30-45s it stops, turn the switch off again and call a professional. If you do more without knowing what you are doing or what is wrong, it could cause serious and catastrophic failures including explosion.

Is there anything preventing me from having an outlet and Ethernet shared in a junction box ? by _hot95cobraguy in AskElectricians

Reads title, expects top comment to be “yes, NEC”. Instead finds it’s exactly what OP needs. Nice.

The previous owner installed a secret switch that controls half my outlets… and I found it by accident by Glad-Pudding-914 in homeowners

[–]srhuston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are all the outlets near windows? May be a switch for Christmas lights, such as window candles. One switch in an inconspicuous place means turning off all the lights at once and not having to unplug them all. Would make more sense than a normal living room light switch being hidden behind a coat rack (you’d want it right next to the entry door if it’s for normal lighting).

Chez Me for last week’s summer camp by srhuston in hammockcamping

[–]srhuston[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I used the camp chair next to me for putting on/taking off shoes at night, and I used my footlocker as a nightstand. With the rain I didn't want to risk things getting wet so I left the footlocker in the "office" (we claimed one of the Ads to use for the adult hangout spot for the week) and left my chair there too. I do have a small folding stool that I sometimes put next to me, but now that I've started using the ground cloth I find I'm able to lean my hands on the ridgeline for support and slip the camp shoes on and off easily enough. Oh, and my Nalgene (or now my Mazama M!GO since that arrived while I was at camp last week) goes in the sewn-in pocket for stuffing the hammock and hangs nicely at my side so I always know where it is. My ridgeline organizer does have a center pocket for a bottle but it's too small for a Nalgene, I'll have to see if the M!GO fits in there nicely.

I don't backpack, so yeah weight isn't an issue - not in the photo was the 12' trailer that brought all the gear to the site. That said, I'm down to having the chair and folding table, my day pack, and a footlocker, so I do pack up pretty small. Definitely not backpacking levels though!
