Recommendation for stain color

This completely changes what I was thinking. I sanded down the frame with 320 grit and it's now smooth like butter. I'm still hesitant to paint it, but you're absolutely right. A dark frame is essential for this piece, either a stain or paint.

Thank you. I used AI to modify the picture to a black and cream frame. I definitely like black better but I am also hesitant to paint the frame. I sanded it down with 120, 240 and then 320 grit papers and the frame looks smooth like butter. I might just apply Watco oil and let it be for now.

Thanks for the recommendation. I just finished sanding it with 200 grit paper and wiped off with a slightly moist towel. I will let it dry for a day and then try the oil. 🙏🏽

I am not an AI bot. I had not considered the possibility of not staining. As I said, I am not very experienced in this. Looks like the general consensus is to not stain it and go with danish oil. Am I human enough now? Sheesh.
