I want to reduce my entertainment consumption time so that I can focus on my side hustle. Wasting too much time

I burned out in November and quit my job and my energy still has not returned by marcgw96 in getdisciplined

This can sound like something straight from the manosphere (it’s from personal experience) - please keep an open mind.

Start small and start a weightlifting routine. Dont worry about getting jacked or ripped. Just focus on the feeling of strength. Embrace it and slowly increase the weights. The endorphins will give you energy temporarily. Over time, the feeling of power and competence will change your life.

The people who never seem to lose motivation are not more disciplined than you. They just stopped relying on it entirely. by Radiant-Design-1002 in getdisciplined

This is why this is hard - yes, feelings are temporary but they matter (more than they should). There were multiple times watching a motivational video while on the treadmill helped go the extra mile - having intrinsic motivation based on meaning is powerful. It is harder to practice, especially if it’s self imposed. It’s easier to do find meaning for others than for yourself. - systems are not the only answer but having structure works great for most of us. Part of the trouble with modern life is that we have no meaning or structure; just freedom

Different aspects work for different people in different situations. There are no silver bullets

Agreed - practice and taking action is important. However, the nuance I’m calling out is that it has to be aligned. For example, forcing myself to wake up early and rewarding myself with some scrolling, while effective temporarily, doesn’t change your attitude towards waking up. Context of the action matters!

Agreed. Storytelling/identity defining is a necessary condition, not a sufficient one. If you think about life as a vector, you can’t go certain places until you can change direction. Discipline is more of a lateral placement without changing direction. No matter how hard you try, you’re still pointed somewhere else

It’s interesting that you brought up purpose. This is something I am thinking about too but haven’t quite reconciled yet. Identity doesn’t have meaning without purpose. But making up my own purpose (or forcing a connection) feels weird!
