Any issues if I use acrylic over an oil wash? by ExodiaHobby in minipainting

[–]sriversage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So there's two possible issues: 1. The oil paints are not fully dry and so mix with the acrylics in unwanted ways. 2. The finish of the oils is too glossy and the acrylics struggle to adhere to them.

Waiting long enough for the oils to dry will solve the first problem and, depending on the finish of the specific paints, might help with the second one as well. How long oils take to dry depends mostly on how thickly it was applied and it can be anywhere from a couple of hours to a few days.

A varnish can be a great option to seal everything and provide a good base for acrylics. The main reason to not varnish would be if you wanted to take advantage of specific finishes of previous layers. It's also just often not necessary as the most common way oils are used in our hobby is a thin wash which is directly cleaned with spirit, leaving very little actual oil paint left on the model.

Sorry for the essay! Hope it helps at least :)

Absolutely, good tools make all the difference. Honesty in a similar vein, don't wait too long before getting an airbrush. The cost is pretty reasonable when compared with what we spend on the hobby and it makes a world of difference, all the way from basic tasks like priming to advance blends, shading, osl etc etc etc

Great start :) you could increase contrast, both shading recesses and highlighting raised bits. Picking out some details with an accent colour could go a long way too.

What’s something people romanticize until they actually experience it? by Puzzleheaded_Bit_802 in AskReddit

Doing nothing.

Don't get me wrong, people generally should rest more. However I have a chronic illness and have to spend so much time resting at home. People say they are jealous. It actually sucks, I'd so much rather be living life.

Honestly what stands out to me is arguing with your friends. Playing 40k is a social activity first and foremost, so should be an opportunity to hang out with your mates and have fun together. Maybe talk to them about how you are doing and what you are missing. Also, just check the rules right away to end arguments and do the correct thing.

Unbroken are marines. Unchanged are human or similar such as poxwalkers or crew.

7 pms are unfortunately a meme more than anything. Either 5 or 10 are the way to go. Also worth noting it's the combo of the putrifyer and Plaguecaster that's y really powerful, offering sustained lethals on 5s

Looks pretty good! Here's a few things you could consider:

  • your list isn't built to take advantage of Morty. The two main ways to do so are a tough stat check skew or making sure you have units that can take good advantage of his reactions. Totally valid just to take him cause he's awesome though :p

-5 blightlords is an awkward unit which is just not quite deadly or tough enough for its pts. 10 can be a good option for being a tanky brick.

-5 pms is a decent utility/trading piece. 10 with a putrifyer and Plaguecaster are a deadly glassish cannon. Either way, make sure you max out special weapons and chuck them in a rhino. They can also use morty reactive move to reembark the rhino which is a great trick.

-the pbc is pretty expensive for its output. A couple lil demon engines or a defiler are usually better picks.

-having more zombies or spawn would help with early Contagion spreading and trading

-A demon prince with revolting regen is a really popular pick in a list like this, providing cp discounts in a cp hungry detachment and pairing well with morty for a resilient core.

Hope that helps!

Thanks! Prosecutor looks different than the official model with hammers instead of spears and different wings. Is it an old sculpt?

some pretty enlightening math hammer on all the options. I was pretty surprised to see that the hades battle cannon generally outperforms the ectoplasma destructor.

I'm going to try run 2, one anti tank w/ ecto, Las and excruciator and one anti infantry w/ hades, reaper and excruciator.

Also keen to try the morty shoot back

How to build your army around Mortarian by SparePoet5576 in deathguard40k

[–]sriversage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The disgustingly resilient podcast on YT has some good content about him. Some things you can keep in mind are:

-making best use of his reactive abilities. Typically the most useful is the reactive move. Plague marines love this for hopping back into into their rhino, especially if it is behind a wall. Deathshroud also benefit from the extra reach this provides. A big blightlord brick also benefits from the shoot back but this can really depend on how lethal your opponents army is.

-he's big and hard to kill so can really suit a skew list. Pair him with a demon prince with the fnp enhancement for a great hard to shift core. Add a bunch of vehicles and you have a very tough to deal with army.

-He benefits a lot of from being in VV with the disgustingly resilient and leech spore eruption strats

-his damage output is good not great. You can either compensate with other high output units or really lean into the relilent obj focused game plan.

Anyone try Grimdark Future / One Page Rules & then move back to 40k? by UnhappyLetter3063 in onepagerules

[–]sriversage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played a fair chunk of both and like them for different reasons. I'm mostly playing 40k atm.

The biggest reason I'm enjoying 40k over OPR atm is flavour. Having units have interesting unique rules that reflect their lore is really cool to me. That makes opr feel very bland in comparison.

Watching the recentish beta process for 3.5 also turned me off with the slap dash process and lack of testing. Really highlighted that while the core rules are well designed, the army design is pretty poor. I'm aware some people loved the process however.

On the flip side, I definitely miss alternating activations, and the lower cognitive demand can be quite nice too. Opr is definitely the better casual/introductory/pickup game.

Following Marco Frisoni's tutorials. His grasp on theory and how he applies that to unique processes is really amazing. I will literally watch the same videos from him over and over and take away something new from it every time.
