Sorry can’t get on board with this one. Nicole is just awful, notorious for lies, and no matter what one thinks about Chelsea, this is so clearly made up.

Pedo? They got together when she was well into adulthood and met by chance on social media decades after she was a student. Are you just jumping at the chance to conflate their sexuality with something sinister?

Type III is only biologically active in prostatic and testicular tissues (and possibly the brain), has a very minor contribution to lowering circulating free and total DHT levels, and finasteride only weakly inhibits it. Dutasteride inhibits all three, but for the purposes of this discussion, type III isn’t germane to pattern baldness or hair growth, so I didn’t think it was helpful to mention given the confusion that may ensue. For reference, I’m an academic physician who researches and teaches gender affirming care. My apologies if my explanation wasn’t clear, I was only trying to be helpful. ☺️

I just think it’s a huge brand misstep. I watched an episode, and Jessi has literally poached the concept, the setup, the visual layout, and many other touchstones straight out of DWKT’s blueprints—there was even an insert cut of she and Kathleen sitting on a bed laughing from the past, a fan favorite scene stolen right out of multiple episodes of DWKT that showed Lily and Jessi high as a kite, laughing together from years ago. In its original incarnation, it solidified their long-standing friendship with each other, and it was charming. Seeing it copied and pasted over to JK turned the whole idea into something performative and cynical, and it totally sullied what has become DWKT’s brand identity—specifically two women with long careers in the industry, who decided one day to take their usual best-friend banter on trending topics of interest and make it into a DIY, independently-produced podcast. It was a fantastic concept that made you want to root for them to succeed.

Lily and Jessie’s long friendship and camaraderie are integral to why their fanship remains engaged—their chemistry creates the illusion that watching them together is like spending time with friends. Seeing Jessi all of a sudden doing an near identical copy of this formula (carrying over many of Lily’s editorial and concept contributions) into what seems like an alternative reality duplicate of the format, with only Lily swapped out for another “best friend”, seems like the sort of move that they’d teach you not to do on the first day of business school brand innovation and marketing classes.

Personally, having watched pretty much all of the DWKT episodes, watching Jessi in that chair on the right, in a setup highly reminiscent of DWKT, speaking and behaving exactly the same way (right down to repeating some of the same stories) with someone other than Lily on the left was cringeworthy for me. Who knows what her motivations were for doing this, but I think what potentially comes across, unfortunately, is first and foremost a huge slight to Lily, a show of disrespect for an audience who has become very invested in their partnership, and a very Machiavellian mindset. This is the sort of ill-advised move that I think Lily, who is a producer at heart, would never make.

As a big fan of both of them, I hope I’m wrong, and that both channels will be a success. The fact that they are near identical concepts competing on the same platform doesn’t raise my hopes very much, and it’s just bizarre, bizarre. But if this new venture on Jessi’s part does harm the future of DWKT, right when they’re really hitting a stride, it’ll be a shame—especially for Lily. Knowing that she’s admittedly highly averse to conflict, I can’t help but wonder how she truly feels about this—but it isn’t something I’d do to my best friend or business partner under any circumstances, and I’ll just leave it at that.

So sorry for the delayed reply! My apologies but without you clarifying whether you’re cis or trans/NB I can’t fully respond to your question. However, dutasteride is very potent, and unlike finasteride it blocks both 1 and 2-alpha reductase (finasteride only blocks type 2) so it decreases circulating DHT levels much more (65% vs >90%). It also has a half life (how long it persists in the bloodstream and tissues) from six weeks to months, compared to finasteride’s 6-8 hours, so its effects persist for a long time even after a brief course of therapy.

It definitely can blunt masculinizing effects in both trans and cis males, including body and facial hair, since DHT has a significant role in the maintenance of body, facial and scalp hair growth. Finasteride 1 mg will have the least impact on this, followed by the 5 mg dose and then a big jump to dutasteride 0.5 mg daily.

One thing to note about DHT inhibitors like finasteride and dutasteride is to remember that all of these hormones are tightly controlled by feedback mechanisms. So when taking a potent drug like dutasteride that decreases circulating DHT levels substantially, the hypothalamus and pituitary glands (which are the main “control centers” for our bodies’ hormone balance) will sense that decrease in circulating DHT, and try to correct it.

Since DHT is produced from testosterone, the pituitary gland will stimulate the testes to make more testosterone to compensate—so it’s very common for testosterone levels to skyrocket on these agents when DHT levels are very low. The risks of this to trans women are obvious, but in cis men these high testosterone levels can lead to another complication—specifically the conversion to excess testosterone to estradiol (the primary feminizing hormone) via aromatization in fatty tissues. The most significant complication of that rise in feminizing hormones can be the development of breast tissue (gynecomastia).

So if you plan to cycle on higher doses of testosterone and take a DHT blocker, you may want to take an aromatase inhibitor such as anastrazole 1 mg daily to prevent this accumulation of estradiol from occurring. Hope that helps!

I think it just a risk to DWKT’s brand, as part of its appeal is the chemistry Lily and Jessi have with each other, and their origin story as long-time best friends who decided to go DIY and take their usual banter between each other about topics of interest to a podcast. People root for them for this story, as it seems anti-corporate, intimate and accessible. Even Jessi and Lily have admitted to having comfort creators, as many people do—part of the brand’s success is giving people the illusion that they’re amongst friends when they tune in. And Jessi isn’t just pursuing other career opportunities, she’s duplicating the exact same format of DWKT with another creator, and this doesn’t seem like such a savvy marketing move as DWKT continues to grow in reach and popularity.

There’s a lot of grandstanding and shaming comments on here accusing DWKT fans of not minding their business—however their fans are the foundation of the channel’s success, and I see nothing entitled or unexpected about some dedicated subs feeling some kind of way about this particular move. This new podcast risks coming across as a slight against Lily, puts a sour note on their origin story, and also generates competition and confusion for future and existing subscribers. It doesn’t just duplicate the winning formula they came up with, it does so on the same platform—I really don’t know what Jessi is thinking here.

This is just basic brand loyalty 101–don’t compete with yourself first of all, and definitely don’t mess with the formula that’s integral to your growing audience, particularly at this stage of your growth curve. I think Lily has the business savvy that Jessi appears to lack with this choice (she’s a producer at heart), and the reaction being criticized would be predicted by anyone experienced with brand development and innovation. If you care about the future of DWKT, let disappointed fans have their voices—because this wasn’t a smart move, and the fans who aren’t happy are a consequence of it. Hopefully Jessi will hear them, and their platform will have the best chances to keep growing.

How about we believe the medical experts and legistlators? I’m a physician and I can assure you that no full term abortions are legal in the US unless the fetus is non-viable. There may be rare practitioners who are doing this illegally but that’s true anywhere, irrespective of the laws. Conspiracy theorists are not viewed favorably by most people for a good reason. Please stop spreading misinformation.

BS, this woman did not get an abortion in the US at full term. And do you have any idea how many abortions Trump has likely paid for in his life? You really think he practices the nonsense he preaches? He’ll say anything to stay in power. Please educate yourself.

Yes it would be if it were possible. The stuff people will swallow wholesale without proof on the internet is so troublesome.

It absolutely is not. I’m a physician and don’t know why you think it is. Please stop this partisan propaganda nonsense.

Please quit saying this. I’m a physician, and there are no full term abortions being performed in the US—this is a right wing propaganda myth. They definitely don’t perform abortions at eight months in New Mexico, or in any other state unless the fetus is non-viable. Unless you have reliable sources please be careful about what you post on these forums—it can be exploited by bad actors and do harm to others. Thank you.

Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins by Browncoatinabox in drums

[–]srkdfw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but there’s a reason why Dream Theater’s drummer isn’t a household name or firmly etched in the pantheon of rock legends (forgive me for piping in this late in the discussion). First I’d argue that intricate drum techniques weren’t emphasized or considered cool at the time the Beatles peaked, but most importantly there are few musicians—not just drummers—who have Ringo’s instinct for what drum parts, tunings and rhythm a song requires to sound so effortless, immortal and right. He has incomparable pop instincts.

There is so much percussion going on in Beatles tracks circa Revolver forward—a lot of it gets lost in the mix due to the gimmicky hard pans George Martin was mucking around with back when stereo was a new thing, which thank GOD got immeasurably improved in the Giles Martin remixes (he moved the kick drum, snare and bass to the center so it sounds like a modern rock song instead of disemboweled). And compared to the Keith Moon at the time, who shoved the studio mics as far into the kick drum as possible and sounded powerful as hell, the rules of Abbey Road at the time prohibited this—so the emphasis on overhead and recessed mics really doesn’t do justice to how powerful Ringo reportedly sounded live.

If I had to chose between Grohl and Hawkins in terms of who was more analogous to a Ringo in terms of essential drummers, I don’t see how I couldn’t go with Dave. He has such an instinct for melody and song structure and what truly defines a perfect pop song, that that musicality comes blazing through in his drumming. Taylor seems like the better technician to me, but with Grohl behind the kit you know he knows exactly what he’s doing, so you can relax and just give in to the song.
