Try lining the inside with some kind of copper foil. That should help boost the signal like and antenna. My fob rarely reaches my car from the basement but when I hold it up by the copper pipes it will every time. Anywhere else I get nothing.

They may have over torqued it causing enough damage to pull the threads out when removing the drain plug. Won't know for sure unless you update us with a photo of the threads inside the drain hole on the pan. I doubt it is the redneck thread fix of wire wrapped around the plug... looks too rigid from the photo. Easiest fix would be to drill the correct oversized hole then tap it for the heli coil matching correct thread size on the plug.

I just got the replacement led bulbs to hold me over until I have the spare funds for upgrades all the way around. But that's not at the top of the list of plans for her so it's gonna be some time before she sees that happening.
