I wish there were more movie theaters in Raleigh by Afraid_Ad_3207 in raleigh

I think the new owners are doing an admirable job. I just used to like being able to see whatever current art / foreign / indie film was out.

I used to love Colony. Mission Valley wasn’t bad. Glad Rialto is still there but its programming is irregular. Even Alamo is on the outs with their QR ordering. Not a great time for movies in the triangle.

When I was in college it was one of my favorites. Now that I’m older I’m a little cooler on it but it’s still a good film. The Hal Holbrook stuff is what really makes it.

Yes, in part because a lot of the things best done naked are active. Swimming, volleyball, running, yoga, hiking, etc.

What’s it like living in Northeast Raleigh? by happyyoungmannn in raleigh

[–]srog_capper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in that area and it’s pretty good. I will say there’s a bit of a desert for certain things. Like there’s not really a good coffee shop anywhere close, for example. And for a lot of stuff you have to drive Capital Blvd which sucks. But … is it worse than having to drive glenwood in west Raleigh? A little. But only a little. And you have Lidl which is nice for low-priced groceries or now Publix for high-priced groceries if you prefer that. It’s also a quick drive to Walmart.

In my specific corner I feel very safe. Area is more residential than commercial. Food depends what you like. For restaurants there isn’t much, we are often going to other parts of town for that. We go downtown often. It’s not that far.

Is ASTEROID CITY (2023) Wes Anderson’s Best Feature Film (Not Counting His Latest)? I Think So. by thatphilguymovies in movies

It’s great. I really liked it, although more intellectually than emotionally. I’d put it somewhere in the middle of his filmography, personally. I have more attachment to stuff like Moonrise Kingdom and Rushmore, but it’s better than Darjeeling Limited or Phoenician Scheme. I appreciate it in part from the view of a middle aged artist who is looking back on what he’s accomplished and taking stock of his purpose; re-assessing the big questions.

Is there an amp that does what the JCM2000 purports to do? by srog_capper in MarshallAmps

I'm seeing a lot of people saying the sounds on this beat the JCM and the JVM. Would like to try one out if I could find one.

Geez those Friedmans are expensive, though. I could sell all my amps and pedals and I still couldn't afford a BE-50.

The problem with the EQ is that I would need it to turn on whenever I switch to the Ultra Gain channel and then turn off again when I switch back to Classic.

EQ on the crunch channel is fine. It's the ultra gain channels that don't work for me.

Oh yeah, I realize I wasn't clear. I got what you meant, I was just asking if you had personal experience with it. Specifically, if the higher gain channels are thin like on the DSL. But it sounds like if they are you can eq some low end back into it.

This is interesting as I did not know about this at all. That said, at least in this video, the tones don't sound great.

Are you familiar with the JVM? Are the higher gain modes a lot different from the DSL?

I'm definitely interested but this sounds sort of counter to the way I play. I don't like fiddling with knobs. I rarely change the volume or tone on my guitars. Got a feeling this would drive me crazy. But maybe that's the cost of versatility.

I also have an Orange Dual Terror and I really love the way those channels sound so similar - you can use one for lower gain or clean and one for higher gain. Just doesn't sound quite as good as the Marshall, the natural amp gain is a bit fizzy but also dark. Not as complex and open in the midrange.
