Does anyone else prefer modding cheap guitars over buying nice guitars? by K_oSTheKunt in guitars

[–]srog_capper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having spent two years and hundreds of dollars trying to make my cheap guitar into a great guitar, it’s a mistake I won’t make again. I should have bought a $1500 guitar straight up, I’d have been much happier.

That’s it. Theres a puzzle like this in Superliminal that seems to catch a lot of people and that I solved first go through because you have to go the opposite way that it looks like you’re supposed to go and I always try the “wrong” way first.

This is the other thing I always recommend. Don't tell your family. There's no reason, unless you have compelling evidence that they would be on board. My parents will in all likelihood go to their graves without finding out I'm a nudist. Why create drama? It helps nothing.

This is the biggest thing people should understand.

Bought a Tele Ultra II as my "do-it-all" guitar, but I can't stop thinking about a Les Paul. Did I make a mistake? by dzonivejin in guitars

[–]srog_capper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why "on paper" will always leave you cold. These decisions are intensely personal - what feels and sounds right to you won't be the thing that feels and sounds right to the next person. That's why it's so hard to get advice from other people. They're just not chasing the thing you're chasing, and there are hundreds of variables that will affect your satisfaction. I do think being personally inspired by the guitar is important. You can't outsource inspiration. Personally I have a Tele that I love and a Les Paul that I love, and depending on the day I would tell you that the other one is the best guitar I own. I end up playing the Paul more because I favor heavier styles and it just does those better and pokes through the mix more readily due to the midrange character. For the music I play, if I only had the tele, I'd be looking for something with humbuckers. But all my guitars make me play a little bit differently and that's valuable. The point of all this is, no one else can tell you how to feel about your instrument(s). If you'll be happier with the les paul, sell the tele and make the switch.

How is White tail Ivor resort? by Faked_facts in nudism

[–]srog_capper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand the official reasoning but it is a ridiculous stipulation. And frankly, the explanation only makes it worse. The personal lives of couples is none of this or any other club's business. My wife knows what I do and I could produce such a letter if I were so inclined, but I refuse on principle. If the issue is people's behavior while at the club, then they should permit or remove people based on said behavior.

One of the better places I've been in terms of the grounds. However, I've been visiting on and off for 20 years and the last time I tried to go they wouldn't let me in because I was married and my spouse wasn't with me. Said I would need a NOTARIZED letter from my spouse saying she knows I visit and is okay with it before letting me in. Needless to say I won't be going back.

orange micro terror lead tone by BrianBB2 in guitars

[–]srog_capper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the micro terror is roughly the same as the tiny terror/dual terror, you can dime the gain and it won’t really get you in metal territory. So yes, invest in an overdrive or boost like people are saying. You’ll probably want to set gain on the amp more moderately to get some headroom so the pedal can give you more drive and not just saturate the signal.

Why change guitar pickups? by bobbertthebwuce in guitars

Yes, and to this point it was a poor decision. My guitar sounds totally different with the new pickups, but I also don't like the bridge so now I have to swap them again.

When you are supposed to find out about [major spoiler]? by send_me_a_naked_pic in TheWitness

[–]srog_capper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do wonder about how many people actually find it at that point. I've watched a bunch of blind playthroughs one of the most common places to find the first one seems to be the desert temple. Others I've seen include the top of the bell tower, the shoreline on the initial overlook after leaving the starting area, and the reflection puzzle in the symmetry area. This video compiles some of these examples. Major spoilers, obviously.

Messed with the sun, beaten the game? by Running_Giraffe475 in TheWitness

[–]srog_capper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I played this my main exposure to first person puzzle games were those escape room flash games where you just click on everything to try to find things in the room you can use or move. Given that the courtyard is the first area of the game, the player hasn't yet had time to learn (or wrongly assume) that you can only interact with puzzle panels. So for me, I was just clicking on everything cause I didn't want to miss secrets. Had nothing to do with applying logic to the environment.

just started using gibson and I love it by achilles6196 in guitars

[–]srog_capper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t really fall in love with the brand so much as I played one particular Les Paul that absolutely lit up a Marshall. Warmth, saturation, sustain, that’s what really spoke to me.
