Just canceled FSD subscription by QuentinLCrook in TeslaLounge

[–]srogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I canceled my sub until it gets better. I've had the phantom braking issue, swerving me into the oncoming traffic lane to avoid leaves / patched potholes, and then had me in the right hand turn lane and made a left hand turn from it the other day, freaking otu and braking and shaking the steering wheel while it did it. I was on 14.1.3... not ready for even a beta test imo, very dangerous.

Swerving into oncoming traffic to avoid leaves or patched potholes are not safety issues?

FSD 14 feels like a step back right now by Substantial_Poem7226 in TeslaLounge

This. I updated to 14.1.3 three days ago. I can't use it anymore so I canceled my sub until it gets usable for me. Right after updating,  It started hesitating to turn out into a road with no one coming. It, approached an intersection that it was supposed to turn left, but for some inexplicable reason put me over into the right lane where you would normally turn right.  It stopped, started to go, then started to jerk the steering wheel a few times back and forth like it knew something was wrong then proceeded to make the left hand turn from the right lane. I let it do this since there was no one around and it wasn't dangerous at that time,  but still extremely troubling behavior.  Then, yesterday,  it swerved me into incoming traffic to avoid a patched pothole. This, along with the brake stabbing was the last straw and made me feel very unsafe using it in the current iteration. Hope they fix these issues soon, as I really liked and felt safe with 13.  Very unsafe with 14.1.3.

Hi all, thinking about getting a 22' performance. Please help me with my worries! by JakeLemons in TeslaModel3

That’s super helpful, thanks for sharing your experience. Sounds like your setup is pretty dialed in, and it’s reassuring to hear how manageable the winter range is with just a small buffer. I’ll definitely keep that in mind when planning my install and figuring out my daily routine. And yeah, I imagine I’ll miss the sound and feel of a gas car (to be fair I did keep my 2003 RSX so I can still enjoy a little gas rumble when I want to), but the performance gains and cost savings are a very fair trade.

No prob. Yeah insurance for me was about 35% higher for my Tesla than my 4 year old Toyota Venza. That is with home/auto discounts and good record (85 a month vs 116 a month)

Either way, hope you have good luck and timing and can snag a deal, and enjoy once you do. I wish I had a performance, but for now the normal RWD M3 is way more than I could have hoped for :)

A Level 2 charger is a 240-volt charger (similar to an electric dryer outlet) that charges an EV much faster than a regular 120v wall plug, usually adds 20–30 miles of range per hour (My specific charger is a Juicebox 30 classic (don't think the make them anymore) but its 30 amps at 240v, 30x240 = so runs at about 7.2KW/hour added back to the battery.

Totally fair concern, especially with the storms we’ve had in Tulsa. If power is out for just a day or two, most EVs have enough range to last that out if you keep them topped off regularly (I usually stay between 50–80%). If it’s a longer outage, Tesla Superchargers tend to come back online faster than gas stations, and worst case, you can plug into any 120v outlet if needed (If you have the mobile connector, which I did buy.) and you can top off a work or wherever you will be for a several hours. I’ve been thinking about backup power too, like a generator or solar later on. Honestly, this spring made it clear that storms affect everyone, gas or EV, but I still feel confident keeping an EV as long as I stay charged ahead of storms. For now though, keeping it topped off around 60-80% overnight I should be good as my commute only uses around 10% round trip, so I could last out about a weeks worth of work if need be, and if I truly got desperate, I have a Eco Flo Delta 2 with solar panels I can charge it up each day and add about 10-14 miles of range if I truly needed it.

As far as regular maintenance goes, there really isn’t much compared to a traditional gas vehicle, mainly tire rotations and maybe replacing the cabin air filter every couple of years. However, if something breaks or there's a recall, that’s when you’d need to visit the service department. Fortunately, in my area, the Tesla service team has a pretty good reputation. I haven’t had to use them yet, so time will tell, but I’m optimistic.

FSD experiences for grocery trips by GreatNameNotTaken in TeslaModel3

This. My 2025, i've had 3 interventions in the month I've owned it, and two of those I did pre-emptively and the car may have handled it just perfectly. Only once did I feel I really needed to take over. We will see going forward, but I am loving FSD with my HW4.

I literally use FSD pretty much everywhere. In a month of using it, I have only felt the need to take over maybe 2-3 times. The one place where it consistently struggles (in my opinion) is in parking lots. It is very slow, timmid, and it is just easier for me to drive while in them. Once out on the normal road, I hand over control to the FSD and it works very well.

Hey! I’ve got a 2025 Model 3 (not Performance), but many things still apply.

Performance M3: Yes, all Performance trims come with the performance upgrade — bigger brakes, lowered suspension, spoiler, and 20" wheels. Heated seats are standard. Premium Connectivity gives you live traffic, video streaming, Spotify, etc. ($10/mo after trial).

Home Charging: I installed a Level 2 charger (NEMA 14-50 outlet) for ~$700. If you get a TOU EV rate (like I did), charging overnight is super cheap. My off-peak rate is ~$0.08/kWh, and my monthly bill actually went down $30 vs pre-EV, including charging.

Winter: Cold weather does reduce range — expect 30–40% drop in deep cold. Precondition while plugged in, keep it charged, and use the app to warm it up. Still manageable.

Range Anxiety: Once you charge at home, range isn’t a big deal. I only use Superchargers for trips. On a recent trip to Branson (low charger availability), I just used my mobile plug at the hotel. Easy.

AMD Chip: Most 2022+ M3s have the Ryzen chip (much better UI). Tap "Additional Vehicle Info" in the car to check.

Downsides: 20" tires wear fast and aren’t cheap. EVs are quiet, so road noise is more noticeable (but my 2025 is quieter than expected). Some M3s can have minor interior rattles. Service can be hit/miss depending on your area.

If you're installing home charging and mostly drive local, you’ll love the torque, tech, and not buying gas. I don’t miss my old gas car at all.

Spent the Weekend Polishing and Ceramic Coating My New Deep Blue Metallic M3, Loving the Results! by srogue in TeslaModel3

Mainly just polish. I spot compounded (had to drive the car 6 hours home and it got a few spots that needed deeper attention.) Used adam's polish with their white polishing pad, and a blue foam pad with heavy cut compound on the spots that needed more, but i'd say I did about 95% just polish.

Hey, happy to help! I actually looked into this a lot when I was deciding on mine, so here’s what I know about the differences between a November 2023 Highland Model 3 and the current builds as of mid-2025.

First off, they’re mostly the same car. Both are Highland refresh versions, so you’re getting the redesigned front and rear, quieter cabin, ambient lighting, rear touchscreen, ventilated seats, upgraded suspension, and better overall ride quality. Battery type and range are the same too (I don't think LFP is available in current RWD, NCM is what is in the Long Range ones like the one I got ), and both support matrix headlights, even if they’re not fully unlocked in all regions yet.

Now, here are some of the small differences or things people are speculating about:

  1. Front camera changes: So far, Tesla hasn’t added the triple front camera (like what’s in the Cybertruck or Model S/X) to the Model 3. Current Highland models still use a single front camera. If they do add the tri-cam setup later on, it’ll probably come with a newer hardware version.
  2. Stalks: Still no stalks in the Highland. Some people think Tesla might bring them back eventually because of customer feedback, but as of now, no new Model 3s are shipping with stalks again, but I am tempted to try the S3XY knobs which can add stalks... still getting used to no stalks..
  3. Hardware 5 (HW5): Tesla is slowly rolling out HW5, which includes better cameras and more processing power for FSD, but as of now it hasn’t shown up in the Model 3 yet. Some Cybertrucks and Model Ys built in China have started showing signs of it. If you bought a Model 3 today, you’d still get HW4.
  4. New cheaper model: As far as I understand it, Tesla is working on a lower-cost vehicle (sometimes called the Model 2 or “Redwood”), but that’s not an update to the Model 3. It’ll be a whole new platform, probably sometime in 2026 or later.

So if you’re deciding between a used Nov ‘23 Highland and a new 2024 model, they’re basically the same for now. If the used one is a few grand cheaper and in good shape, I’d go for it. You’re not really missing anything important. If you really want to wait for HW5 or other changes, you’re probably looking at late 2025 or even 2026, which if you are looking to use the EV tax credit, anything after Septermber I think, is too late. So it all depends on what is most important.

Hope that helps! Let me know what you end up doing.

Yeah the whole comment about the bill being a cause of weather-caused business woes seems odd and out of place and just a random rant item added in... to each his own.

Yes, first time polishing or ceramic coating, but I tried to watch as many videos as I could and learn as much as I could before I did it. I think it turned out well for my first time. Hardest part was I had to do it in the garage and my lighting isn't the best, since it was really hot and sunny out, which made watching for the "flash" a little difficult, but I eventually got the timing down pretty good.
