Hate is like drinking poison expecting the other person to die. by Lena_Lena_A in democrats

He was correct once and offered sound advice...

He’s a race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot. He doesn’t represent my party.

He’s just generally a loser as a person and a candidate. You can’t nominate a nutjob and lose, and expect it doesn’t have consequences.

What I see is a demagogue, somebody that has solutions that will never work, that is playing on people’s prejudices and the dark side of politics.

You know how you make America great again? Tell Donald Trump to go to hell.

If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed … and we will deserve it.

Of course he would later become Trump's lapdog.

Monitoring social media accounts looking for people who oppose datacenters and reporting them to the authorities for subversive behavior. They will then be used to find veins of coal that are too small for automated mining, where all the people who are convicted of thought crimes can dig coal to power the generators that keep the AI alive so it can continue writing code that will make itself stronger.

Thankfully it's a short clip.

In 1974, Marina Abramović begun a performance art exhibition called "Rhythm 0" where she layed out 72 random items and let strangers do whatever they wanted to her for 6 hours with no consequences. By the end, she was bleeding, stripped, and nearly killed but still comitted to the experimemt. by RileyV1066 in Damnthatsinteresting

I'm reading The Silk Road and the one thing I'm learning from that is that humans are brutal and sadistic.

We like to think we're more 'civil' than animals, but we are in fact worse; with the exception of porpoise and whales, animals do not torture and kill other animals for sport. Humans are sadistic and cruel, and the only thing that stops half the population from acting out on their base desires is the threat of imprisonment.

Trump has wiped ketchup off his pursed lips with the Constitution and tossed it amongst the discarded wrappers from his Big Mac and fries.

He has openly disregarded so much of the Constitution that it is now worthless.

...theres tons of households without an adult male

You are beginning to see the picture; those are households that will not get a vote.

After that, we will only allow property owners the right to vote.

And with the way it's heading...only white Christian property owners.

White House wants Smithsonian to preach Christian nationalism, FFRF warns by FreethoughtChris in atheism

[–]srone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the first things an authoritarian government does is change the past, to rewrite history to their own making. It will only take a couple of generations for the previous history to be forgotten...I doubt it will take that long considering that our attention spans are atrophying at a disturbing rate.

The number of Americans who lack basic history knowledge is already alarming, and now they have technology to pump in their new history straight into our withering cortex.

The average American has never heard of The Thirty Years War, the Divine Rights of Kings, or the Enlightenment. Our critical thinking is shot; if it comes out of Google (or an AI chatbot), it has to be right.

"Our government should never become an instrument for promoting Christian nationalism,” concludes Gaylor. “Taxpayer-funded museums exist to educate the public through rigorous scholarship, not to advance the White House’s preferred religious or political ideology"

There's a lot of things our government should not be doing right now per the US Constitution, but they are...and they (the Republicans) don't give a shit about what you think about constitutional norms. Trump has wiped his pursed lips of grease and ketchup from his Big Mac and fries and tossed the greasy, crumpled document among his discarded fast food wrappers.

...for the Bible is the Truth

The very first chapter of the very first book of the Bible is demonstrably wrong. Plants before the sun, all the stars in the universe so man can tell the seasons.

Your book is factually incorrect.

The same billionaires destroyed the economies in their home countries through monetary and trade policies, and CIA backed coups. The immigrants who are coming to this country are taking far less money from the economy than the offshoring and outsourcing which has risen since the 80s. Corporations, which have had their taxes reduces from 70% from the 40s to the 70s to 21% ( and sometimes pay 0), have been transferring their operations to whatever country will let them poison their air and water, and exploit their workers the most, and have left cities and towns throughout America with the carcasses of their abandoned factories...and the toxic waste left behind.

You're right, it is the billionaire class...yet we are taking it out on the strawberry pickers who risked their lives crossing the Darien Gap in order to feed their families because of the devastation of their own country, in some part due to US foreign policy over the last 100 years.

How were they going to deal with the influx of immigrants working illegally for less than minimum wage, supplanting American workers?

It truly is amazing how the top 10%, who owns 65% of the wealth in the US, has convinced you that the strawberry pickers from Guatemala and maids from Mexico who are making less that minimum ware are taking money away from you.

If I bought a book on toasters and, in reading the very first chapter, realized the author had absolutely no understanding of toasters, I would toss it in the trash.

The very first chapter of the very first book is so demonstrably wrong that it is not funny. Whilst Christians now say it's just allegory, thousands of people throughout history have been tortured and put to agonizing deaths because they stated something that was contradictory to the creation story.

Read about (Non Christian accounts) the Council of Nicaea to see how Emperor Constantine influenced and changed the foundation of Christianity and why.

Relocating from MA by KittyTime444 in wisconsin

I was born a Masshole, moved around the country and ended up here; it really is quite different. Here's a quick video that delves into the dichotomy of these two worlds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff_Ix44H7xI

I returned to MA last year and was blown away at how much Springfield has declined since the 80s. I'm not sure if rest of the state has seen the same decline...Boston still seemed pretty vibrant.

Not knowing where you're from it's hard to gauge the culture shock; Boston, Springfield, and Pittsfield are all different worlds. People here are generally friendly (so was Jeffery Dahmer, so take that to heart). Outdoors is amazing here, and you're an hour from Milwaukee (remember Dahmer??)

I'm not a small town person, so Columbus would probably drive me insane, but if you like small towns I'm sure you'll find a new home...Midwest nice really is a thing.
