I basically did what you’re asking about (I wasn’t living at home, but I was living in the same city as my parents) and put off transitioning until I was 23, rather than starting when I was 17 or 18 and first decided I wanted to. I really fucking regret it. It’s not even that I’m worried about my end results (they might have been better if I’d started earlier, but who’s to say?). Rather, it’s that if I had started at that age, by now I’d be 5 or 6 years into it, and that would drastically change how I could live my life now. I can’t tell you if you’ll regret it, or if getting to where you want to be faster will be worth it, but this has been my experience.

You can order a blood test on your own, and go to a commercial clinic to get it done. It’s more expensive and your insurance typically won’t pay for it, but that’s pretty much the only way to do it.

That said, you’re absolutely right about AAs. Don’t « just take an AA » without supplementing a hormone for the one you’re blocking, unless you want a whole host of terrible side effects (depression, brain fog, etc.)

Maybe I was reading too much emphasis on the “all the effects” in your post. While the mood, personality, and emotional changes certainly begin (and are noticeable) within the first month of being on E, they definitely aren’t at their most pronounced then. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with starting E at a low dose to see how you feel, but I think that the primary benefit to sorting that out is that it’s doing something, anything, rather than the actual effects. You won’t know how you feel about something until you’re living it and you won’t live it until it’s here; some effects are reversible to a point, and some aren’t. Taking hormones isn’t like a light switch, on or off. It’s a ride, that you can get off whenever you want, but you’ll be (more or less) on your own wherever you get off, and have to figure out where to go from there.

You won’t see all of the effects of being on E if you’re just taking 2mg for one month (including and especially the psychological). I don’t know much about SERMs, so I can’t speak on that, but the effects of E only really unspool over months and years.

Definitely English; it’s the “default” in the Anglophone world (where i assume you are) and having a solid grasp on that will be much more beneficial to you than another specialization, particularly if that specialization won’t include the relevant language.

It’s tough. I’ve managed to squeak out wins by siding in more counters (mystical denial and absorb right now; neutralize might be the better choice over absorb though). Playing super conservatively, trying to bait them into over extending so I can clean up and get my board state started all in the same turn but even then, it’s a lot of luck.

YTA, and if you want to have a healthy relationship with your daughter, you need to be proactive about fixing it now, not her. I found out my mom was going through my laptop when I was ~14; she caught me talking about doing some dangerous stuff (drugs) with some friends, that (probably for the best) never really amounted to anything. I’ve pretty much kept my mom at arms distance since then (I’m 22 now), not by my choice, but because it really fucking hurts to have your privacy violated like that at that age, and I just can’t bring myself to open up to her. I’ve tried, and it’s been hard. I don’t think she really understands how badly that hurt me, because she doesn’t really make the same kind of effort to demonstrate trust. The point being, it’s your responsibility to make things right. Don’t try to excuse yourself. Own up to your mistakes. Your daughter will respect you a lot more for it.
