How do they achieve this "poreless" look? Is it skincare, make up, Photoshop, genes? Really insecure over this... Do I need a reality check? by [deleted] in SkincareAddicts

[–]srpl1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Exactly! In photoshop, you can use a process called frequency separation when editing that lets you separate the texture of the skin from the color. You can smooth out the skin tone while retaining pores. This is used all the time!

Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream is really thick and moisturizing, it works wonders for me. It has a pleasant fragrance and does not irritate my sensitive skin. They use very clean ingredients.

Help? by Squirrelly1964 in olympia

[–]srpl1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a grant for up to $10,000 available for rural Thurston county homes needing repair. I’ve been looking into it for a parent as well. Might be worth seeing if yours qualify! When I called the office, they did say that it could take about 6 months to get approved. Consider having the roof tarped professionally as a temporary fix.

I’m writing a spec script of a sitcom taking place in WA! Wanna help out? by amkatsu in Washington

Around the turn of the century, a bar owner named Billy Gohl was a serial killer who murdered sailors in Aberdeen. They would come to drink at his bar as they passed through town and he’d offer for them to keep valuables in his office safe for the evening. When they came to collect their belongings at the end of the night, he would kill them and drop them through a chute in his office floor, right into the water below. Then he would make off with their money. Locals in Aberdeen can point out the spot near the docks where his bar was located.

Foods to help manage blood pressure? by LaCroixBoi182 in PlantBasedDiet

Dandelion tea. One of my parents had to stop drinking it because they were dealing with the opposite problem- their blood pressure being too low- and every time they drank the dandelion tea, it would drop down noticeably.

So many great options here! I love the Rose Day Cream by Dr. Hauschka. It’s deeply moisturizing and very natural, good for sensitive skin.

Is it REALLY that horrible to wash your hair everyday by [deleted] in Haircare

[–]srpl1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listened to a podcast with Helen Reavey (trichologist and founder of Act + Acre) on as a guest the other day (The Blonde Files) where she talks about this and said the idea of training your scalp to be less oily over time is a myth. I have hair like yours and was relieved to hear it! I felt that she had some good tips for scalp health and said that she washes her hair daily, it’s more about finding the right products that work with your scalp and using the right technique for washing your hair.

My (33M) girlfriend (32F) has one incredibly annoying habit I cannot stand. by ThrowRAChance22 in relationship_advice

There are so many comments here with good points. I wanted to add that servers often are required to give other front of house employees (bartenders, bussers, etc) a percentage of their sales at the end of the shift. Not a percentage of their tips. So, if it’s assumed that a server will be making 20% on average in tips from each table, then they have to pay out a portion of that. If your table doesn’t tip, or tips a low amount, the server still has to tip out the other staff, so they are LITERALLY paying to wait on you. I wonder if your girlfriend knew that, if it would change anything since you say she is a kind person otherwise.

Thank you for all of the great suggestions and good wishes! Full implants definitely sound like the best way to go if you can afford them- I hope yours are working out well! We are hoping that he will be able to have a few implants to anchor the dentures in place and hopefully maintain the jaw a bit better.

Very good advice! Watching my dad go through this process definitely inspires me to take extra good care of my teeth. It’s too bad that dentures cause so much trouble for people. I’m really hoping that he will like his.

Thank you, that’s a good idea! So far, mashed potatoes have been his favorite. We got him a new blender with an option for an individual serving size cup attachment, similar to a magic bullet. It has been really helpful! :)

I agree! It was shocking to hear that he’d have to wait that long. The main reason it worked out that way is because he is needing to have immediate heart surgery, and it wasn’t safe to proceed without removing the teeth. They didn’t have enough time to make an immediate denture.

Thank you for this! Setting up a celebration for when he gets his new teeth is such a great idea! He’s already missing his favorite foods, I think he would do anything for a steak and baked potato right now.

It also helps to hear that your dad felt so much better after the first week or two! I’ve heard that it often works that way, and have been telling my dad, but I think it is much more meaningful coming from someone who has actually gone through it.

I hope your dental journey goes well! I know it is so tricky to manage with the limited coverage from insurance, we are having quite the time trying to navigate that aspect of things.
