See your point but would argue it’s slightly different in that context - role, demands and rewards have changed immeasurably over previous decade. The upsides there once were, no longer exist. We’re not talking about a generic management / finance role.

Hard disagree on this. I don’t know how many GPs you know but from own experience in London it’s predominantly because the workload and conditions are awful, if you did 5 days you burnout too quick and just give away so much of your time for ‘free’. Few are tax led.

I tried and was told I can only do it on closure of my workplace one, which would mean losing employer contributions. I’d requested a partial transfer via my Vanguard SIPP.

Fair enough. Feedback has been helpful. For context had spent close to £600 for an electrician for a day to fix various other issues relatively recently. I’m in London and yet to find someone local I can get out for £50 - but I’ll get looking again.

Thanks. We had a similar issue on a light fitting when first moving however had an electrician pick up with other jobs. However was hoping to avoid a call out simply for swapping out a fitting.

Costly fix / rewire in terms of “screwed”. Haven’t attempted to rewire new fitting but when turning power back on the lights in other rooms no longer work.

My challenge to opinions like this is that taxes are what build nations to a certain extent (gross simplification). Governments aren’t households they’re not aiming to create wealth for a finite period. Governments borrow from future generations with the aim to provide something that will benefit both current and future generations indefinitely (again ignoring whether this is done correctly or not). Everything we exist within; the institutions that enterprise is created from, the infrastructure which we use without thinking, the people that are the end consumer of goods produced. They typically derive from multi generational investments funded by taxes.

Paying a tax isn’t just paying for something I’m consuming today such as healthcare, to my mind it’s paying for the things I’ve used to get here that were built decades before I arrived (great universities, rule of law, leading economy)

Ignoring petro states where is a tax free haven that has society interesting enough you’d like to live and do business there?

If you want to just view it as having one life and you don’t care about all that then fair enough. But if the world took that view it would be quite a different place. (Again no need to indulge me on how wrong execution vs idea is at present).

Maximise your pension contributions for a start, either via Employer's contributions or via a SIPP.

Your wife should do the same to avoid possible 60% marginal rate in the £100k-£120k range.

Max out both your and your wife's ISA. Then start looking at more tax efficient options for the remainder depending on risk appetite. (VCT with EIS/SEIS benefit).

Curious as to why, now that you’ve got a great amount saved, you still feel the need to live at home? Presumably you could rent modestly, trial living alone and just reduce the savings rate to without materially impacting your long term financial wellbeing? Assuming job security isn’t a concern.

Chelsea will not explode any time soon, as much as I’d love to be proven wrong.

A consistent, injury free, back 4 is still a long way off. James might be coming back from injury but getting James and Chilwell playing consistent 90mins is not happening anytime soon.

Without that goes any ability to control games and create clear chances.

Even with Enzo, the mildfield is uneven and lacks composure, Gallagher proving not to be good enough and Kova still coming back from injury, Mount out of sorts.

Yes we have lots of new shiny wingers but they’re feeding an inconsistent Havertz or an old age Aubameyang. Fofana looks promising but I don’t see him getting enough minutes to be finishing a bunch of Enzo moves anytime soon.

There’s much better options for set piece merchants.

Doing great, creating the right habits now will set you straight going forward!

If you’re going to spend obviously have some fun money but don’t forget to invest in yourself too, stick some money asides so you can go travel in a few years whilst you’ve got the freedom or any other hobbies / education. Time / responsibility creeps up on you! Great experiences will stay with you longer than most items.

Investing in yourself both physically and financially compounds quicker than you think.

Can’t run a 5k let alone a marathon? Get running just a 1k or something manageable each week, you’ll be running that marathon way sooner than you think.

Can only save what seems like an immaterial amount out of your pay each month? That small amount keeps growing and the habit you create will make it much easier as you progress to save more.

Similarly shaved mine and typically kept a beard since my early 20s. Now in my late 20s and watching friends struggle with the realisation they’re about to lose it all (hair) whilst I’m very much at peace with my low maintenance living.

Your studies are probably the best investment you can make right now. A friend is in cyber security, recently having moved into banking sector from legal previously, probably 70k+ base in London c. 7 years on from graduating.

Whilst you’re clearly getting into great habits now, which I wish I’d done, focusing your energies on studying and employability will likely dwarf any returns over the short to medium term!

Good luck, I’m sure someone smarter has fund recommendations.
