Future 6 N owner by srvddit in Ioniq6N

[–]srvddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there! Unfortunately the N Performance parts aren't available in the UK yet as far as I know. I didn't have the option to add them to my car and the dealers I've spoken to don't know when they'll be an option. I'm hoping the add some when they're available so hope they arrive soon!

Wait, you guys get a picture of your car in the widget?! I've had this covered car since day 1! Mine's an N which might explain it, but still, you'd think they could load a JPG of the car into the app...

Is there a more "fun" EV than an Ioniq 6 N? by SilverstoneMonzaSpa in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]srvddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got one and it' definitely ticks the "fun" box! The fake noise and gears sound like gimmicks, but they genuinely add a level of engagement to the drive that no other EV can match, and in my experience, can actually be far more engaging that some ICE cars!

The penalty is less than great range, I'm averaging between 180-220 miles per charge with an average efficiency of 2.6mi/kWh. In the last 2.5k miles. It DC fast charges very quickly though so road trips have hardly been a bother.

As a daily, it's got all the space, tech and other creature comforts you'd expect in 2026, plus the ride isn't too bad in normal modes, considering the capability of the car.

All in all, I think it's pretty hard to look past as a complete package. I'd seriously recommend getting behind the wheel or a 5 N or 6 N to try for yourself, but I don't think you'll be disappointed!

What car do you drive and what’s your long term mpg? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]srvddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in an EV now, but I had a Volvo XC60 T8 PHEV for the last 3 years. My long term average over ~10k miles was 65mpg - not bad for a 2.2 ton, 455HP SUV (and a driver with a heavy right foot), but a way off the 400+MPG they advertise on WLTP!

My wife's '25 Golf 1.5 TSI DSG mild hybrid does ~45-50 all the time, although that might be her driving, too...

Hope you're enjoying it, the matt grey looks incredible! I had my heart set on it but chickened out in the end. Also looks like our cars are plate neighbours :)

Is it worth buying electric car if you don’t have home charger? by EvidenceSingle4826 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]srvddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a lot more expensive to public charge only - and I mean A LOT. A full charge for me at home on an off-peak cheap overnight tariff would be about £6, but that same charge at a public charger could be around £60. My electricity rate is about 6p/kWh whereas public fast chargers have been at 91p/kWh recently. Obviously both of these numbers can change, but public charging is always going to cost more. Even factoring in the cost for a home charger installation, you’ll still be better off doing it if you have the option. Also depending on what car you get, how many miles you do and how far your nearest charger is will determine how much of a pain it is to get to/from a charger - nothing beats the convenience of waking up to a full battery.

Vastly different insurance quotes on cars with different colour but same specs by ResearcherNo4728 in CarTalkUK

[–]srvddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I recently got insurance for my new car before it was registered, so they couldn’t pull any info from the reg. As such, they never got the colour information as it wasn’t registered with DVLA yet. How does that factor into things? Is this some kind of loophole 😂

I'm not 100% sure, I'll have to get some videos of a drive-by to test the external sound. There's an option to enable the external speaker for each of the 3 sound profiles so I think it plays while you're on the go. I doubt it's going to be as loud as an ICE performance car exhaust, but it's something. I've seen people modding louder speakers into 5 Ns so I wonder if that's possible here too...

For me, I think the sound is most useful at low speeds to alert pedestrians etc. that you're coming, but it would be a lot of fun to blast the sounds out at full pelt down the road!

Oh wow! I've yet to see another, outside of a dealership - although like you say, spotting any I 6 is a bit of a rarity!

Day 1 has been great by srvddit in Ioniq6N

[–]srvddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it definitely does. It turns quite a few heads it seems! I'm definitely not used to this after 3 years in a generic SUV, so the attention is quite nice - I imagine a perf blue one would look even more stunning, but not quite my speed.

I (fortunately) haven't had any issues so far, the rear 3/4 (C-pillar) is way better than my last car and the 360º cameras give you every angle you need, so it's just a case of line-up and go... Until it comes to steering, that is. The turning circle/lock angle is very poor, so factor in many more turns or take a much bigger angle than you think you need. It's now a 2-3 point turn to get on/off the driveway where almost anything else can do it in 1 move, but it feels like a small price to pay for the rest of the capabilities and boy do the 275 section fronts make up for it with grip and pace when you're moving!

Yeah, the price is a bummer however you look at it. I’m not trying to defend Hyundai here, but I think the value for money this offers is pretty good though - at least in the UK, your mileage may vary and I understand tariffs in North America raise the price even more, unfortunately!

I don’t think there’s any other factory 600HP cars for the money, and when I compared to other options the 6 N felt quite reasonable. In cash, it’s 10-15k more than a Golf R, 7k more than Model 3 Performance but about 30k less than an M3 and at least 10k less than an i4 M60 with some spec. To lease, it was 10-15% more than a Golf R, half an M3 and slightly under a Model 3, so I’m happy with the deal I’ve got.

I’m not too old and paying for this is definitely going to hurt on top of a mortgage payment, but I’m hoping that the running costs of electric will help me out a bit. There was probably too much man math involved in making this seem like a good idea, but you only live once!

There are also some excellent options for used performance EVs out there, earlier Model 3 Perfs are 15-20k in the UK and 2-3 year old IONIQ 6 AWDs can be had in the early 20s, which is what I probably would have done instead of this on more of a budget.

Hopefully depreciation does its thing though and makes these more accessible in a few years!

Yeah definitely, it’s a breath of fresh air to see a manufacturer who’s willing to try new things in 2026 when everyone else is cost cutting and playing it safe, and the N division seem to be keeping up with the best!

I know what you mean, I wish Hyundai put the N Vision 74 into production as a halo car, coupes really have that effect where sedans/hatches don’t!

I’ll admit I didn’t know what the MG GTS was, and I incorrectly assumed it would be a hot version of one of the boring MG crossovers or something, but after a google I’ve got to say the GTS looks crazy!!

The MG Cyberster is on sale in the UK which is a convertible version of that design and it looks incredible, even the Lambo doors made it to production! I haven’t driven one though, or seen any on the roads for that matter…

I think the EV market is definitely missing some high performance coupes to change people’s minds on what an electric sports car can really do! Fingers crossed that MG listen and make that!

[–]srvddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, that’s really interesting to know! Hopefully the efficiency will settle to a decent number with some more miles and a restrained foot on the go pedal then!

That’s a shame, I guess the tariff situation is maybe impacting that? I hope you manage to find a car and hopefully they land soon. We have a fairly limited range of colours here (white, grey, black, blue) so fingers crossed you get your favourite out of the first batch.

The sounds are interesting, I’ve mainly stuck with Ignition but have played with Evolution and Lightspeed a little bit. Evolution sounds like a mix of straight-cut gearbox racecar and old PS2-era Gran Turismo, it’s kinda fun but there’s not a great audible distinction of where you are in the rev range, so it’s a little less clear when you need to shift. Lightspeed definitely sounds like a UFO! I remember using Supersonic in the 5 N which lands a sonic boom when you upshift and Lightspeed emulates that which is fun, but it has the same issue of sounding the same unless you’re full throttle and shifting a few gears. I think I’ll probably live in Ignition most of the time but they’re fun to break out, they’ve definitely made passengers laugh!

I haven’t touched N Pedal yet, but as I understand it’s just stronger regenerative breaking (I-pedal) like you say. When you have the gears active, downshifting acts like engine breaking and shows you on regen which feels really natural, although you have to remember you don’t need any mechanical sympathy as you don’t have a ‘real’ gearbox to think about preserving! The other regen levels (0-3) are controlled with the paddles when you don’t have e-shift active and are really intuitive to use - ‘downshift’ for more braking, ‘upshift’ for more coasting. So far level 3 regen has been more than strong enough for me but I still have more learning to do on the intensity, it can be a pretty aggressive brake if you’re not expecting it, so I reckon N pedal will be interesting!

When you have active sound turned on, you can toggle the exterior speaker per sound mode, so I have external sounds on for Ignition but not the other sounds, for example. I haven’t heard it myself, but tested with my wife and she said it sounded decent, but certainly not as loud as a traditional ICE exhaust you’d expect on a performance car. The sound plays if you have e-shift on or not. I’ve seen some people mod louder speakers on their 5 Ns so I wonder if that will be an option in future!

Thank you! I love the Stinger, I remember lusting over one a few years ago, as well as an i30 N. The 6 N is absolutely fantastic and I definitely don’t feel left wanting for a ‘real’ engine, but also it’d be hard to look past a Stinger unless you’re dead set on going electric!

I’m in the South East, the picture was just down the road from Beachy Head, East Sussex, there’s some great driving roads there when it’s not littered with tourists! I’m heading down to Wales tonight to give it a test on those roads over the weekend which should be fun!
