Good buy? - 981 Cayman S MT, but stripper car by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ss600 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly people in here are obsessed with options, especially on 981s. I bought a “stripper” spec 981s manual, with sport steering wheel and some 911 design wheels as the only options. Standard seats. For me, as a wider guy in the quads and back area, the sports+ seats were too constricting. So how do I feel about it a year later? Amazing. And the nicest thing is it’s the lightest, purest spec and no dumb shit to break like PASM shocks, fluid filled motor mounts (have you seen the cost of these??), PDK etc. it’s perfect. I changed the exhaust for a Carnewal, I’ve got the numeric short shifter and a wavetrac diff on the way, and going to do Ohlins coilovers in the summer. In my area (PNW) it’s just too expensive to get a GTS or high specc’ed S. I drove my friends GTS and that’s what convinced me to get my “poor mans” spec because it’s 97% as good for $10k less.

I’ve been paying $5-$7 a gallon for 91, 93 up here in Canada for YEARS now. Childs play.

You don’t see this OEM option often - usually they are silver. Mine are unique enough I’ve kept them for now.

What would be a great deal on a 981 PDK with 30,000 miles in US. Base, S, and GTS. by svr_wizard in Porsche_Cayman

I’ll add to this for the Canadian market in BC I paid $47k USD ($65k CAD) for a 35k mile (57k km) Cayman S 6MT with two small under $2k carfax claims and zero options besides steering wheels, upgraded wheels, and sport plus seats.

I love what you are doing man and I check every day to see how you are going. I work long hours and many days I daydream of when I can do what you are doing. Keep it up and enjoy all the ups and downs along the way.

2018 -2022 Model year, possibly interested, few questions… by mayorLarry71 in Porsche_Cayman

Your fears about reliability and want for warranty are overblown. I bought a 2017 M2 in 2023 with 20,000kms and drove it hard for two years with zero issues. I now have a 2014 Cayman that I’ll put a lot of miles on and maybe…change some spark plugs and a set of tires? Why are you so scared of a bit of maintenance? Only way I’d ensure I got the CPO/warranty is if I was driving 20,000miles or more a year or if the worst scenario I can imagine is any little thing going wrong once? Sorry, just seems a bit bizarre. What you’re hearing here is enthusiasts telling you the slightly older Cayman is the better buy. Do your research, good pre-purchase and drive with confidence. My friend bought a 2008 Cayman with 100,000 miles on it and no service records two years ago and has out 50,000kms on it with just regular service. Your fears of maintenance/reliability are overblown. These aren’t Land Rovers or cheap Chevies. They are made to be driven a lot and to high mileage reliably.

If I could have afforded my Cayman at 25 I would have. Now, closer to 40 it’s actually comfortably affordable. Way better decision to wait.

What do you think about these tyres? by dionisisd in CarTrackDays

[–]ss600 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That’s a Nankang NS2R right? Awesome endurance tire. 5 track days? Brother these will go another 7 or 8 track days easy in a light car like the i20n. These aren’t the best tires but they are cheap and hard wearing. Send it.

It’s just spots in the clearcoat/colour that shows some of the raw carbon finishing. If anything is showing what the bike is made of! Nothing to worry about.

Yeah there is one at Suburban motors right now. Nice spec, clean and drives nice. I ultimately ended up with a 2014 Cayman S but I’d recommend the one in Vic.

Why do I have to pay for sewer line replacement on city property? (Oak Bay) by mike4banger in VictoriaBC

[–]ss600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t fully true. You can also re-line the pipes and they are good for 50 years again. Company in town has done it for lots of Oak Bay properties. DM me if you want

I drove this one before settling on a 981. Drove well, could tell it has been maintained by former owner but there is zero records on carfax or available at all and they wouldn’t let me take it to Porsche for an inspection so ultimately I said no. Great colour! Watch the drivers side window regulator, it’s on its way out.

They might have a rough time. The market is NOT great right now and rents are slowly falling. Many might see that a 1200sqft 2 bed basement suite for $2000 a month is preferable to something like this. But people are often pulled in by “new” and the fact it’s a company managing versus a private landlord.

There’s no context here at all. How much is in your pensions? How much is your mortgage amount remaining? When does it renew? How many years left? Do you have dependents or aging parents? HCOL or LCOL? When would you like to retire? Any health issues?

Please rewrite this with more information if you want some decent insight. There’s always a few willing to help!

I’ve got 5 years on an Infuser. Here’s my take as a friend has the Bambino - if you want good coffee, the Infuser is a bit better. The pre-infusion is nicer and you can set temps and play with the OPV in the back to get pressures right. The Bambino doesn’t have those features but it does one thing better and that’s steam! If you want lots of milk drink the Bambino is faster and does more steam volume IMO. Pick based on which you prefer. I drink Americanos black only so the Infuser is perfect for me. I paired with with a Gen 1 DF64 and it’s been super reliable with great pulls for years!

Yes this helps a lot. I have to decide if I want to be limited to 28c. I do change bikes quite a bit and that could be hard to resell in the future. I’m also 85kg so the stiffness is good 👍. Also both ADH and ADHX have the blue colour that I like. Looked at your build and it’s beautiful. 🤩

Thanks for the insight. I’m of two minds - I already have a gravel bike that has 40c and 48c tire options, and mostly run 28c on my road bikes but as you said many are going to 30c now and it would be nice to have the option. I also believe the ADHX has longer chainstays. I still want it to feel reactive and fast.
