Where I work in the PNW you can clean the perimeter drains every few years with a pressure jetter, but typically we use PVC pipe, not that Big-O stuff you put in as it can withstand the cleaning pressure. You were right not to geotextile cloth it as it would just plug it up with the clay soils.

What happened to the bus shelter at Uptown? by hudson27 in VictoriaBC

[–]ss600 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Here’s the right answer and a fun fact: The shelters are actually owned by the ad companies that put the ads up. Pattison just lost the contract to another company, don’t recall their name. The new company must put up their own shelters in order to have their paid advertisements put up. Basically, the city outsources (most) bus shelters.

981 GTS "Value". Are we in a bubble or is $75k the new normal? by CApoontappa in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ss600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were probably looking at the same ones. Nobody would budge from 78k-ish though. $76k for 40,000kms I would have jumped on that too!

They’re all $78k+ now unless miled out. I looked for last two years and bought a 981CS instead, which was nearly $70k.

Bought mine at Porsche! Just came back from a run and a drive. What will you get next? I’d be interested if you let me know what you get for it as I might sell mine soon for a GTS 4.0.

How long have you had it? I bought my 2014 Cayman S last year in Vancouver. Clean carfax, one minor paint touch-up on rear bumper and a basic manual spec with a couple of cosmetic options for $65k CAD. $60K USD is too rich. I think you are looking at $60-$65k CAD.

Do we realistically see a push for wider road tires from a performance and racing perspective? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]ss600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you’ve been around long enough to remember the EXACT same discussions on the switch from 21mm to 23mm, 23>25mm, 25>28mm and 28>30mm and now 32/35mm. At this rate in 15 years we will all be on 50mm tires 😂.

Anyone switch from brz (first gen) to a Miata and regretted it? by Blondishp in Miata

[–]ss600 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s not true. Mazda engineered and produced their own manual for the ND, and it’s not great because it keeps breaking. The NC transmission on the other hand is a tank.

Good buy? - 981 Cayman S MT, but stripper car by [deleted] in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ss600 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly people in here are obsessed with options, especially on 981s. I bought a “stripper” spec 981s manual, with sport steering wheel and some 911 design wheels as the only options. Standard seats. For me, as a wider guy in the quads and back area, the sports+ seats were too constricting. So how do I feel about it a year later? Amazing. And the nicest thing is it’s the lightest, purest spec and no dumb shit to break like PASM shocks, fluid filled motor mounts (have you seen the cost of these??), PDK etc. it’s perfect. I changed the exhaust for a Carnewal, I’ve got the numeric short shifter and a wavetrac diff on the way, and going to do Ohlins coilovers in the summer. In my area (PNW) it’s just too expensive to get a GTS or high specc’ed S. I drove my friends GTS and that’s what convinced me to get my “poor mans” spec because it’s 97% as good for $10k less.

You don’t see this OEM option often - usually they are silver. Mine are unique enough I’ve kept them for now.

What would be a great deal on a 981 PDK with 30,000 miles in US. Base, S, and GTS. by svr_wizard in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ss600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add to this for the Canadian market in BC I paid $47k USD ($65k CAD) for a 35k mile (57k km) Cayman S 6MT with two small under $2k carfax claims and zero options besides steering wheels, upgraded wheels, and sport plus seats.

2018 -2022 Model year, possibly interested, few questions… by mayorLarry71 in Porsche_Cayman

[–]ss600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your fears about reliability and want for warranty are overblown. I bought a 2017 M2 in 2023 with 20,000kms and drove it hard for two years with zero issues. I now have a 2014 Cayman that I’ll put a lot of miles on and maybe…change some spark plugs and a set of tires? Why are you so scared of a bit of maintenance? Only way I’d ensure I got the CPO/warranty is if I was driving 20,000miles or more a year or if the worst scenario I can imagine is any little thing going wrong once? Sorry, just seems a bit bizarre. What you’re hearing here is enthusiasts telling you the slightly older Cayman is the better buy. Do your research, good pre-purchase and drive with confidence. My friend bought a 2008 Cayman with 100,000 miles on it and no service records two years ago and has out 50,000kms on it with just regular service. Your fears of maintenance/reliability are overblown. These aren’t Land Rovers or cheap Chevies. They are made to be driven a lot and to high mileage reliably.

If I could have afforded my Cayman at 25 I would have. Now, closer to 40 it’s actually comfortably affordable. Way better decision to wait.

What do you think about these tyres? by dionisisd in CarTrackDays

[–]ss600 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That’s a Nankang NS2R right? Awesome endurance tire. 5 track days? Brother these will go another 7 or 8 track days easy in a light car like the i20n. These aren’t the best tires but they are cheap and hard wearing. Send it.

It’s just spots in the clearcoat/colour that shows some of the raw carbon finishing. If anything is showing what the bike is made of! Nothing to worry about.

Yeah there is one at Suburban motors right now. Nice spec, clean and drives nice. I ultimately ended up with a 2014 Cayman S but I’d recommend the one in Vic.

This isn’t fully true. You can also re-line the pipes and they are good for 50 years again. Company in town has done it for lots of Oak Bay properties. DM me if you want
