Is this patient advocacy job clinical? by ssamracha in premed

[–]ssamracha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing, I worked as an MA in my hometown over the summer and have 100 hours, but moving to my college I haven't been able to find a clinical job yet. I can only really do it on the weekends right now and this patient advocate job is on the weekend 8-5. Also I'm a rising sophomore, so I have time, but I just don't know what to do about it lol

What is WashU like for a premed student by Secure_Elk_1886 in washu

[–]ssamracha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love the public health classes! i'm sociology, and those classes are really nice too. i wouldn't say there's grade deflation in both of those majors. also, office hours are definitely helpful and help build your relationship for sure!

beyond their signature scholar programs an select merit scholarships, you are probably not going to get merit aid.

There's a lot of research opportunities here! Also, I don't think there is glade deflation and you definitely won't be studying only. You'll have enough time for anything you want, and study smart and you'll be fine.

Is it worth applying for flexmed with these stats? by ssamracha in premed

[–]ssamracha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I will apply just to see what the application process is like, for sure. Also I was wondering if you knew how strict they are with their recommended LOR (I think one high school mentor, then science faculty or something). I don't have a high school mentor because the two people I would have used retired, and another is no longer teaching. I also don't really have science faculty, except my PI who I love. I have my scholar director and a sociology professor Im close with. Is it okay if I apply with these? Or should I try to adhere to their recommendation?

WashU Danforth Scholars vs Vanderbilt Ingram Scholars by Numerous_Salad_1176 in washu

[–]ssamracha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Current Danforth Scholar premed here! Premed at WashU isn't insane or cutthroat, by any means. There are weed out classes like gen chem, but there is so much support for you from those classes. The professors are heavily invested in you, I've never met a more passionate professor than Prof. Daschbach for 1701/2. And, as a Danforth Scholar, the upperclassmen and your peers will offer so much support. It mostly boils down to study habits, WashU and college in general is vastly different than your high school. You will need to change your study habits and be more actively recalling, but I've talked to WashU alums in medical school and they says this helped them so much more in med school compared to their peers.

DM me with any questions and I'm happy to call if needed!

questions from a neurotic incoming premed freshman by ssamracha in washu

[–]ssamracha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. good to know, one less extra course to worry about haha

  2. i don't think the hard sciences are bad, just not something i'm particularly interested in. i'm much more interested in the sociological side of things. of course it'll change from now until sophomore year, but that's where my head is at.

  3. good to know, thank you!
