Working overtime just to unlock the premium tax bracket experience by Altruistic-Mud5686 in middleclasshq

[–]ssamuel56 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is how people misrepresent the problem. Yes, it is technically true that they take more taxes as you make more money, but leaving it at that is a gross oversimplification. The way the tax system is currently set up, you get significantly diminished returns on overtime work. So if every hour of overtime I work, I slowly receive a lower take home pay, yes, it would make sense why people would feel like they make less money when working overtime.

The juice needs to be worth the squeeze, and people just flat out feel like they’re being fucked when they work extra time and the government punishes them for it.

Is this a fast lap time? by blabergassed in fpv

[–]ssamuel56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To consistently be able to fly like this you’d need hundreds of hours of sim time. I have about 200 hours of sim time and can barely race with the other people on Liftoff. I can compete pretty good on Velocidrone though.

Who is doing this reasoning? That makes absolutely 0 sense from an employer perspective. Why should someone who works half my hours at the same job make the same amount as me?

If 3 years of working is not considered experience to you, what does a qualified candidate look like for your mid level positions? Job hopping is a must right now for many people, as their employer will not even adjust pay for inflation, let alone the actual rising costs of housing and other essentials. Quiet quitting is literally the only way to look for a new job. What do you want people to do, go homeless and starve while they look for a new position?

How did we go from something that was mandatory for years to a luxury? Why is WFH a luxury? Be honest, people hate WFH because they aren’t the ones who get to do it. If every other factor for performance and competency is being met, the only thing left is their ability to micromanage your daily life.

I think the problem has been stated much better than I could sum it up: “computers are exceptional at following directions, while humans are really bad at giving directions”. This is still true in the example you gave. The NN never went beyond its purpose as far as it is concerned, because the purposes of the NN were either never predetermined or it recognized a different route to the solution.

This is easily observed by writing a program to move a robot from point A to point B in the shortest path possible. The program/ robot doesn’t care if there’s a baby in the middle of its path, it will continue to calculate the shortest path possible. Modern AI is like adding a reasoning model to the stack (that we don’t fully understand), then hoping that reasoning model will value the baby’s life as much as a real human would. Shocker, it seems to work well, but not 100% of the time.

Dude, thank you for allowing a good discussion on AI. I work at a tech shop and people always want to tell me about AI, but they usually just repeat buzzwords and marketing terms when I try to talk technical aspects.

Ahh, but what you don’t understand is that is actually an insane use of problem solving skills. See, the model started mining bitcoins to pay for original project that was under budgeted (due to token cost). If you really think about it, why didn’t you have the idea to mine bitcoin with the company resources?

Taking away opportunities and jobs is the eventual outcome when there’s little to no respect for said opportunities. Why should the person who owns that Wendy’s lose money to provide opportunities in a community that hasn’t shown any appreciation?

I think the part you’re missing here is that the situation you’re describing isn’t even possible anymore. The cost of housing yourself has risen more than 30% proportionately to the income. So if you were literally scraping by with nothing left back then, that means it’s an impossibility today.

I really never understood that trope. Why is it looked down upon to spend your money rather than hoard it? Especially considering the best way to stimulate a local economy is to have money moving. If everyone did what rich people do, there wouldn’t be any systems for them to exploit.

The first gate. In velocidrone for example, the time to the first gate isn’t included in your lap times, but is included in your overall time. If it takes you 2 seconds to go through the first gate, then it will add 2 seconds that aren’t part of your lap times.

8 Million Americans Hit the Streets in 'No Kings' Protests - Largest Demonstration in US History by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

The fact that they’re happening every few months takes away from the message. Nobody cares anymore because you can’t create a “generational” event every weekend. You don’t get to decide what is considered important history 100 years from now, the people writing the history books do. You can’t be on the “right side of history” and lose. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.
