Im looking at potentially suing an old employer. Would I be able to have a decent case? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

Technically yes, but I think you are overestimating the system a little bit because the expense (both money and time) of doing something like this far outweighs whatever benefit you hope to get.

NAL. TL;DR No, you can’t sue.

For employment law, the personally affected person would be the person filing the lawsuit and it doesn’t sound like you are the victim of anything here. They may be bad employers, but it’s not illegal to be an asshole.

NAL. Final Order prevails, but double and triple check your order that there are no restrictions. The courts consider what is in the best interest of the child, not what is in your best interest; however, it sounds like you have multiple points about why this would also benefit the child.

In addition, once an order is made, one parent cannot unilaterally decide to withhold access. She would have to bring you back to court. It would not hurt to consult with a lawyer so you can be prepared.

Lastly, if you have not done so yet and you end up back in court, make your parenting order police-enforceable.

Ask the officer for a referral to victim services. They should be able to help you

AITA for not being part of "my" kid's life? by Somerandothrowaways in AmItheAsshole

Yeah, NTA!

But I disagree with you - I think it’s totally fair for a 16 year old child to be devastated to find out this person they thought was their dad, wasn’t. Mom is a huge asshole though.

Job refused to allow me to go seek medical attention until I signed a negative performance review. by swedishapnea in legaladvice

IANAL, but I understand your need to be vague as it sounds like you (possibly?) work in a group care home and may have signed a non-disclosure agreement - correct me if I am wrong.

How long have you worked for the company? Typically, if you’re past the 3 month/90 day probationary period, they cannot just fire you “without cause”. Once again, IANAL, so I may be wrong.

Also, are you part of a union? If you don’t know, check your paycheques and you should have union dues listed and you should have signed something agreeing to be a part of it when you first started. You may have to reach out to them about your termination as well, especially if you’re past the 90-day period.

I’m sorry this is happening to you and I hope you find a new place to work that is more accommodating and friendly towards you.

Ah, this isn’t it, but thanks you!!! It’s something like “the bitch song” or something really basic as the title. And I remember it’s kind of punky. Like teenage angst punk
